Since 1986 the Phillies have honored the annual top position players and pitchers in their minor league system. The award is named in memory of Paul Owens, a Phillies legend who spent 48 years in the Phillies organization as a scout, farm director, general manager, manager and senior advisor. The Phillies have signed 27 year old RHP Sam Carlson to a minor league contract and added him to the Reading roster. Carlson was the 2017 2nd round draft selection of the Seattle Mariners from Burnsville High School in Minnesota. Carlson had TJ surgery in July of 2018 and missed the entire 2019 season.
