Some fine recent detective work by Matt Winkelman of Phillies Minor Thoughts found that the Phillies released some minor league players on December 10th, the minor league transactional lists aren’t being updated on line so to find the transactions one has to do roster comparisons and/or drill downs on individual player profiles 🤪 … the following players were released :

The club also signed the following veteran minor league players to minor league contracts :
1B Aldrem Corredor - assigned to Reading roster. He’s 26 years old and is a left handed hitter and thrower from Miranda, Venezuela. Last season he played for Harrisburg at the AA level in the Nationals organization and hit .257/.328/.406 in 92 games ( 323 AB’s ) with 19 doubles, 1 triple, 9 home runs and 52 RBIs. He was originally signed by the Nationals in 2012.
Corredor was selected to the Carolina League All-Star team in 2019 at Potomac when he led the loop in doubles ( 34 ) and RBIs ( 89 ). He’s been referred to as a good contact hitter - will get the chance to compete for playing time at Reading at first base, DH and perhaps left field.
IF Kevin Vicuña - assigned to Reading roster. He’s 23 years old and is from Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela. Vicuña played primarily last season for AA New Hampshire ( Blue Jays organization ) appearing in 76 games ( 275 AB’s ) posting a .247/.308/.320 slash line with 14 doubles, 2 home runs and 35 RBIs. He played defensively at all four infield positions with 26 games at shortstop. He was originally signed by the Blue Jays in 2014. Vicuña is known for his speed and defensive skills - has shown good range with the glove. Will likely serve in an utility role with Reading if he makes the club out of spring training.

Also some of the teams are beginning to announce their minor league coaching staffs. Former Phillie Juan Samuel will be working for the Reds as a minor league instructor. Gary Jones, who managed Lehigh Valley last season will be the AAA manager for Detroit’s club in Toledo for 2022. Cody Asche has joined the Washington Nationals as a minor league coach, he was with the Clearwater Threshers last year as the hitting coach. Chris Truby has taken a role as the Pirates minor league infield coordinator, he was the field coordinator for the Phillies last season. Josh Bonifay is now the Player Development Director for the Rangers, a role he performed last season with the Phillies and Hannah Huesman has also joined the Rangers as a mental skills coach, the role she had with the Phillies in 2021. Steve Schrenk will return as the pitching coach for AAA Syracuse ( Mets ).
Reid Brignac will be the 2022 manager of the Binghamton Ponies ( Mets - AA ) and will be joined by other former Phillies on the staff - Jerome Williams ( Pitching Coach ), Tommy Joseph ( Hitting Coach ) and Mariano Duncan ( Bench Coach ).
