Today in Extended Spring Training :
An 11 AM intra squad scrimmage this morning on Ashburn Field. Five different pitchers threw. 20 year old RH Jean Cabrera pitched two scoreless innings striking out four batters. 20 year old RH Estibenzon Jimenez, 22 year old RH Wilson Valdez and 20 year old RH Jaydenn Estanista all threw two innings as well. 20 year old RH Eiberson Castellano threw three frames. All have the potential of being considered “big arm” hurlers. Each posted multiple strikeouts in their outing - Castellano was touched for back to back home runs but came back strong - he’s a physically imposing young man and has strong mechanics - fastball jumps.
Fielding Prowess :
Nikau Pouaka-Grego ( 17 yrs old ) is a very smooth and well schooled infielder, we’ve seen him at both second and third base and he’s impressed with his abilities to make plays at both positions. Second baseman Erick Brito ( 19 yrs old ) made a very nice middle of the field back hand stop and cross body throw on a grounder to record an out at first base. Albert Jerez impressed with a very strong and accurate arm from shortstop - he’s 20 years old - big fella at 6’2”. Randy Vasquez ( 19 yrs old ) made a nice snag on a grounder deep down the third base line and made the long throw across to diamond to get the out.
Offense :
Freddy Francisco and Herbert Iser hit back to to back home runs - Iser’s sailed far into the parking lot beyond the right field fences. Jackie Pertuz ( 19 yrs old ) also sent one sailing over the right field fence for a dinger.
Oscar Gonzalez doubled, Albert Jerez doubled and tripled and Scott Kingery tripled.
Herbert Iser also had two hits as did Randy Vasquez ( 2 singles ).
Aldrem Corredor, Gonzalez, Chris Burke, Nikau Pouka-Grego, Erick Brito and Adony Mejia each had a hit.
