The Blue Jays XST contingent traveled to Carpenter Complex for a 1 PM game against the Phillies. It was the first game of the 2022 XST season.
Summary : Phillies 1 Blue Jays 1
The game was a seven inning contest replete with spring training rules of “rolling” innings when pitchers reached or exceeded pitch counts.
The Blue Jays scored a run in the second inning on a single and double. The Phillies matched that run in the fourth inning when Scott Kingery doubled down the the left field line, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch.

Defensive Gems :
Erick Brito made a great grab in the hole at shortstop and the long throw across the diamond to first base to record an out. We’ve been impressed with his fielding skills beginning in 2021 Fall Instructs when we first saw him play. Randy Vasquez made a nice play at third base and displayed a strong arm and LF Chris Burke made a great catch on a sinking liner in the first inning.
Notes :
Dexter Fowler batted in each of the first five innings for the Blue Jays, the 36 year old veteran major leaguer signed with Toronto on 3/31 on a minor league free agent deal. He struggled today, timing was way off on pitches and punched out four times.
