4/8/22 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) - Columbus 5 ( 1-2 ) Lehigh Valley 4 ( 2-1 )

Allentown, PA - Coca-Cola Park


Summary :


CF Dalton Guthrie stroked a two out two run single with the bases loaded in the second inning scoring LF Drew Maggi ( walked ) and C Austin Wynns ( singled).


Columbus scored in the 5th on a triple by Mike Rivera who scored the run on a subsequent ground out.


Daniel Johnson hit a two run home run for Columbus on the top of the 8th inning.

The Iron Pigs loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth inning on singles by Yairo Munoz and Darick Hall and a walk by John Andreoli. Drew Maggi hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at three apiece.


Columbus scored a run in the top of the ninth on a walk and double ( Gabriel Arias ).


Dalton Guthrie singled in the ninth inning and attempted to score from first base when Nick Maton doubled off the right field wall but was called out by the home plate umpire on a bang bang play at the plate.

Darick Hall and Austin Wynns had two hits each. Dalton Guthrie had two singles and two RBIs - he’s hitting a red hot .500 in the first three games 🔥. John Andreoli walked twice. Nick Maton doubled.


Web Gem :


3B Yairo Munoz made a nice barehand pickup and throw to first on a slow roller down the line to end the seventh inning.


Not so much web gem 🥴 - 1B Will Toffey had a high fly foul ball hit off the top of his head - the next pitch was also a pop up but second baseman Ronald Torreyes made the catch.


Notes :

Before tonight’s game LHP Jonathan Hennigan, RHP Andrew Bellatti and RHP Michael Kelly were added to the roster. AAA roster rules allow for a maximum of 38 players with a limit of 28 active for each game.


Enyel De Los Santos pitched the 9th inning for Columbus.

Summary :


Reading loaded the bases on walks in the second inning. 1B Josh Ockimey scored on a groundout by 2B Kevin Vicuña.


Elijah Dunham doubled to score a run for Somerset in the third inning. They scored a run in the fourth on a single, stolen base and two wild pitches. Another run scored in the 4th on a sac fly.


DH Vito Friscia doubled in the fourth inning and scored on two subsequent ground outs.


Josh Breax went yard for Somerset to plate two in the fifth inning. They added another run in the ninth inning..


On The Hill :

Vito Friscia doubled. Josh Ockimey walked three times, Logan O’Hoppe and Jonathan Guzman each walked twice.

LF Madison Stokes played a ball hit off the wall in the first inning perfectly and threw to second base to nail Anthony Volpe trying to stretch his hit into a double.


Other Notes :


Lettuce won tonight’s vegetable race as Carrott made a wide turn and was passed in the final stretch 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️.


South Atlantic League ( High A ) - Aberdeen 11 ( 1-0 ) Jersey Shore 10 ( 0-1 )

Summary :

Coby Mayo hit a solo home run for Aberdeen in the first inning.


Aberdeen scored their second run in the third inning- Colton Cowser tripled - he subsequently scored on a throwing error. They tacked on another run in the inning on a double, walk and single.


CF Johan Rojas walked, stole second and scored on a single by SS Luis Garcia in the bottom of the third frame. LF Ethan Wilson doubled to score Garcia. 2B Casey Martin singled to score Wilson. 1B DJ Stewart hit a sac fly to score Martin.


Aberdeen scored twice in the top of the fifth on two doubles,a walk and single. Jersey Shore answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning as RF Baron Radcliff singled to score Wilson ( walked ) followed by an RBI single by Stewart who scored Martin ( walked ).


Aberdeen tied the score with a run in the sixth inning on a walk and two singles.


Johan Rojas legged out an infield single to start the bottom of the sixth, he went to second when Luis Garcia was HBP. The two then did a double steal. Ethan Wilson singled to score them both. Wilson advance to second on a single by Casey Martin and stole third base. He scored on a throwing error. Martin scored on a double by Nick Matera.


Colton Cowser doubled in a run for Aberdeen in the seventh inning. They scored another run in the 8th inning but left the bases loaded.

Aberdeen scored three runs in the top of the 9th inning on a single, walk and two run double by John Rhodes. Rhodes scored on a single by Cesar Prieto - Prieto was thrown out at second base by CF Johan Rojas who tracked the ball down in the right center field gap and made a strong throw to second.


On The Hill :

Ethan Wilson and Casey Martin each had two hits and scored three runs. Wilson had three RBIs. Johan Rojas and Luis Garcia each scored two runs. Rojas stole three bases in the game, the team had nine swipes in the game. Wilson and Nick Matera each doubled. DJ Stewart had two RBIs.


Florida State League ( Low A ) - Fort Myers 5 ( 1-0 ) Clearwater 4 ( 0-1 )

Summary :


CF Yhoswar Garcia doubled off the base of the left center field wall to begin the bottom of the first but was stranded.


Fort Myers scored three runs in the third inning on a single, two walks and a bases clearing double by Keoni Cavaco.


3B Kendall Simmons stroked a two run double in the bottom of the third scoring Garcia ( reached on third strike WP ) and SS Hao Yu Lee ( walked ).


Fort Myers scored a run in the fourth inning. They added two more in the fifth on a single, triple and sac fly.

RF Jadiel Sanchez hit a solo home run for the Threshers in the sixth inning.


DH Felix Reyes tripled in the 7th, he scored on a single by RF Marcus Lee Sang. Lee Sang went to second on a walk, stole third base and scored on a ground out Yhoswar Garcia.


On The Hill :


LH Rafael Marcano - 2 2/3 IP, 3 R, 2 H, 3 BB, 2 K’s - 55 pitches - 31 strikes
