Notes :

RHP Mark Potter was promoted to Reading from Lakewood before today’s game. The big arm reliever gives the Fightins another option at the back end of the pen. He’s been a closer in his brief pro career and features a FB generally in the 94-96 range.

Low A SouthEast League - Lakeland 6 ( 3-3 ) Clearwater 4 ( 3-3 )

Summary :

The Flying Tigers scored four runs in their third inning on four hits and never trailed thereafter enroute to a win that concluded the season opening series. Clearwater scored in the bottom of the third inning on a solo home run over the left field wall by Luis Garcia. Nicolas Torres singled to score DJ Stewart ( doubled ) in the sixth inning. The final Threshers runs came on a ground out RBI by Stewart and an RBI single by Cornelius Williams in the eighth inning. The Threshers had the game tying runs on second and third base in the bottom of the ninth inning but could not score.

On The Hill :

RH Cristian Hernandez - 2 2/3 IP, 4 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 7 K’s, 1 HBP 😳... 45 pitches - 32 strikes. He came out firing and struck out the side in the first inning and five of the first six batters he faced. FB was electric topping out at 96, range was 92-96 ... it had a lot of movement up in the zone - batters were swinging and missing frequently. He also threw a curve ball and changeup. Ran into difficulty in the third inning but a generally strong outing.

LH Nick Lackney - three inherited runners scored on a bases loaded double, they were charged to Hernandez. His final line was 1 1/3 IP, 2 H ... FB ( 90-91), slider and changeup.

RH Gunner Mayer - threw just six pitches before exiting - velo was down to around 90 which prompted a trainer’s visit, he left after walking one batter.

RH Fernando Lozano - 3 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K ... he’s a strike thrower and contact pitcher with a four pitch mix ... FB sat 90-92, also threw a curve, slider and change up ... mixes pitches well - throws any pitch in any count - 34 pitches - 22 strikes

RH Carlo Reyes - 1 perfect inning - 1 K ... FB 90-92, Curve and Changeup -12 pitches - 10 strikes

RH Tyler Burch - 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s - FB 94-95, slider and changeup. 18 pitches - 12 strikes. Relief work may be his calling akin to Lewis-Clarke college alum Connor Brogdon ... attacked the zone today with good movement on the FB and slider ... I could see him as a strong bullpen option 🧐

At Bat :

2B Luis Garcia homered and walked twice, he scored two runs. 1B DJ Stewart hit the ball hard ... 2 hits including a double. 3B Nicolas Torres had two hits including a bloop double down the right field line. RF Ben Pelletier doubled in his only AB, he left the game early after making a diving catch attempt in the third inning ... we saw him later on the bench and he seemed to be ok. CF Johan Rojas hustled a line drive to left center field into a double that the center fielder was lazy on in the ninth inning.

The Threshers head to Fort Myers for a six game set starting on Tuesday.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
