Game recaps, fun facts from around MLB ( games played on 7/26 ) …


Veteran players ( Cruz, Carrasco & Perez ) have big days and set milestones ...


Marlins 11 ( 2-1 ) Phillies 6 ( 1-2 )


The Marlins Miguel Rojas had three hits ( single, triple & home run ) and drove in four runs to lead Miami’s twelve hit attack. Magneuris Sierra doubled and tripled.


Adam Haseley had four hits including two doubles for the Phillies. Jay Bruce doubled and tripled.


Other Notes


The Marlins starting pitcher Jose Urena was scratched before the game due to illness ... two other players were also scratched from the starting lineup.



Cubs 9 ( 2-1 ) Brewers 1 ( 1-2 )


The Cubs hit three home runs ( Ian Happ, Anthony Rizzo & Willson Contreras) in the one sided victory. RHP Tyler Chatwood went six innings allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out eight to earn the win. The Cubs relievers allowed no hits in three scoreless innings of work.



Orioles 7 ( 2-1 ) Red Sox 4 ( 1-2 )


Orioles Shortstop Jose Iglesias had four hits including two doubles. Third Baseman Rio Ruiz and Right-Fielder Anthony Santander each hit two run home runs. Starter LHP Wade LeBlanc went 5 2/3 innings to record the win


Christian Vasquez and Kevin Pillar homered for the Red Sox.


Twins 14 ( 2-1 ) White Sox 2 (1-2 )


Twins Forty year old DH Nelson Cruz hit two home runs and two doubles as part of a four hit day, he drove in seven runs and scored four times.


Minnesota scored nine runs in the first two innings ... Center Fielder Jake Cave had two hits including a home run and drove in four runs.


Right Fielder Adam Engel had three hits for the White Sox including two doubles. Rookie Center Fielder Luis Robert hit his first major league home run for Chicago.


Pirates 5 ( 1-2 ) Cardinals 1 ( 2-1 )


Pirates Third Baseman Phillip Evans had three hits including a double and starting pitcher RH Mitch Keller went five innings allowing one run on two hits and three walks to post the win. The Cardinals were limited to five hits by four Pirates hurlers.


Rays 6 ( 2-1 ) Jays 5 ( 1-2 ) - 10 innings


Kevin Kiermaier hit a two run triple in the bottom of the 10th inning for the walk off Tampa win. The Rays scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game sparked by a pinch hit double by Joey Wendle.


Second Baseman Brandon Lowe had three hits including two doubles for Tampa.


Five Blue Jays had two hits apiece. Center Fielder Randal Grichuk had two hits in two at bars but was removed from the game with right joint irritation.


Rockies 5 ( 2-1 ) Rangers 2 ( 1-2 )


Rockies Short-Stop Trevor Story had two home runs and three RBIs ... he also walked twice and scored two runs. LHP Kyle Freeland went six innings to pick up the win - he allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out five batters.


Rangers starting pitcher RH Corey Kluber left after just one inning with shoulder tightness. Joey Gallo hit his first home run of the season. Nick Solak had two hits for Texas.


Braves 14 ( 2-1 ) Mets 1 ( 1-2 )


Braves Short-Stop Dansby Swanson had three hits including a home run and double and drove in five runs while scoring twice in the lopsided victory. Ozzie Albies and William Contreras also had three hit games. The Braves pounded out seventeen hits in total.


RH Rick Porcello lasted just two innings in his Mets debut as a starter and was tagged for six earned runs on seven hits and three walks


A’s 6 ( 2-1 ) Angels 4 ( 1-2 )


Catcher Sean Murphy hit a sixth inning home run to seal the A’s win ... Marcus Semien and Robbie Grossman had two hits each for Oakland. Five A’s relievers tossed scoreless two hit baseball over five frames to close the victory.


The Angels Mike Trout hit a three run home run in the third inning. He had four RBIs in the game ... Third Baseman David Fletcher had four hits


Angels starter RH Shohei Ohtani didn’t record an out and was tagged with five runs on three hits and three walks.


Mariners 7 ( 1-2 ) Astros 6 ( 2-1 )


Mariners Left Fielder Tim Lopes had three hits including a double and scored twice. Seattle used seven pitchers to earn the victory.


Michael Brantley and Yuli Gurriel each had two hits for the Astros.


Giants 3 ( 2-2 ) Dodgers 1 ( 2-2 )


Left Fielder Darin Ruf crashed thru an unlocked gate to make a nice catch in the sixth inning and also went two for four with a walk, RBI and run scored to help the Giants win their second game of the season. Third Baseman Donovan Solano also had two hits for San Francisco. The Giants used seven pitchers.


Justin Turner and Cody Bellinger each had two hits for the Dodgers ... starting pitcher LH Julio Urias went five innings allowing one run on five hits and three walks.



Indians 9 ( 2-1 ) Royals 2 ( 1-2 )


Indians RHP Carlos Carrasco recorded 10 strikeouts in six innings of work to earn the win. It was his 25th career double-digit strikeout game which tied him for fifth-most in team history. LH Oliver Perez threw a scoreless inning it marked the beginning of his 18th Major League season, a new record for a Mexican-born player.


DH Jose Ramirez hit two home runs for Cleveland, scored four times and had four RBIs ... Ex Phillie Domingo Santana had three hits.


Maikel Franco played first base for the Royals and had two hits including a double.


Tigers 3 ( 2-1 ) Reds 2 ( 1-2 )


Tigers First Baseman CJ Cron hit a two run home run in the top of the ninth inning to lead Detroit to the win.


The Reds starting pitcher RH Trevor Bauer struck out thirteen batters in 6 1/3 innings allowing one run on two hits.


Other Notes :


Reds players Nick Senzel and Mike Moustakas were scratched from the Reds starting lineup due to illness issues ... Moustakas as placed on the ten day IL.



Yankees 3 ( 2-1 ) Nationals 2 ( 1-2 )


The Yankees scored three runs in the seventh and eighth innings for the come from behind win sparked by home runs off the bats of short-stop Gleybar Torres and First Baseman Luke Voit.


Shortstop Trea Turner homered for the Nationals.


Diamondbacks 4 ( 1-2 ) Padres 3 ( 2-1 )


Arizona scored two runs in each of the 8th and 9th innings to rally for the win.

Ketel Marte and David Peralta each had two hits for the D-Backs.


Eric Hosmer homered and walked twice for the Padres.


RH Garrett Richards went five shutout innings for San Diego allowing just one hit and three walks while striking out six batters.
