8/19/23 : Minor League Roundup


International League ( AAA ) -  Lehigh Valley 4 (28-15, 64-52) Jacksonville 1 (24-20, 56-62)

Allentown, PA - Coca- Cola Park


Summary :


Dustin Peterson doubled in the first inning, he scored on a single by Jim Haley.


Two singles and a sac fly scored a run for Jacksonville in the seventh inning.


Jim Haley singled in the eighth, Rafael Marchan walked, they both scored on a home run by Drew Ellis.


On the Hill :


Tyler Phillips was outstanding, seven innings, one run, three hits, three walks, four strikeouts.  Tyler McKay pitched a perfect eighth inning.  Yunior Marte finished it with a perfect ninth inning.


At the Bat :


Jim Haley and Drew Ellis each had two hits.  Dustin Peterson doubled and Drew Ellis hit a three run home run.

Summary :


Carlos De La Cruz was hit by a pitch in the first inning, Oliver Dunn walked.  Ethan Wilson doubled to score De La Cruz.


Elijah Dunham and Josh Breaux hit back to back home runs for Reading in the second inning.


Carlos De La Cruz doubled in the third inning and scored on a home run by Oliver Dunn.  Ethan Wilson doubled and Marcus Lee Sang walked, Madison Stokes singled to score Wilson, Lee Sang scored on an error by the right fielder.


A walk, double, triple and wild pitch scored three runs for Somerset in the fourth inning.


Baron Radcliff homered in the 6th inning.


Marcus Lee Sang singled in the seventh, Madison Stokes was hit by a pitch and Baron Radcliff walked.  Nick Ward singled to score two runs.


Aaron Palensky hit a two run home run for Somerset in the ninth inning.


On the Hill :


Matt Osterberg pitched five innings, five runs - four earned, five hits, three walks, five strikeouts.  Tommy McCollum pitched a scoreless frame, one walk, one strikeout.   Keylan Killgore pitched a perfect inning, two strikeouts. Dominic Pipkin pitched a perfect inning, one strikeout.  Orion Kerkering pitched the ninth, two runs, two hits, no walks, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Ethan Wilson (two doubles), Nick Ward and Baron Radcliff had two hits, Carlos De La Cruz doubled.  Oliver Dunn and Baron Radcliff homered.  Ward and Dunn each had two RBIs - Dunn also drew two walks.



South Atlantic League ( High A ) -Asheville 6 (19-28, 45-63)  Jersey Shore 4 (27-20, 62-50) - ten innings

Lakeland, NJ - ShoreTown Ballpark


Summary :


John Garcia tripled for Asheville in the third inning and scored on a sac fly.


A walk, fielding error and sac fly scored a run for Asheville in the fourth inning.


Jared Carr walked in the fifth inning, he was forced out at second as Justin Crawford reached base, Crawford stole second.  Kendall Simmons legged out an infield single sending Crawford to third.  Simmons got caught in a run down attempting to steal, Crawford scored during the run-down.


Bryan Rincon singled in the sixth inning, stole second and scored on a single by Leandro Pineda.  Otto Kemp tripled off the center field wall to score Pineda.


Justin Crawford walked in the seventh inning and scored on a double by Gabriel Rincones Jr.


Asheville scored two runs in the ninth inning on a walk and two doubles.


The game went into extra innings tied at four each.


Ryan Wrobleski hit a two run home run for Asheville in the top of the tenth inning.


On the Hill :


Rafael Marcano pitched five innings, two runs -one earned, two hits, two walks, seven strikeouts.  Matt Russell pitched a perfect inning, two strikeouts. Malik Binns pitched a scoreless seventh inning, one hit.  Wesley Moore pitched the eighth, no runs, two hits, no walks, one strikeout.  Andrew Walling pitched an inning and a third, two runs, two hits, one walk, four strikeouts.  Cam Wynne went 2/3 of an inning, two runs - one earned, two hits.


At the Bat :


Leandro Pineda had three hits, Caleb Ricketts and Otto Kemp each had two knocks.  Gabriel Ricones Jr doubled and Otto Kemp tripled. Justin Crawford stole two bases giving him 43 for the season (including 40 at Clearwater).


Web Gem :


Right fielder Gabriel Rincones Jr made a diving catch in right center field in the fifth inning.



Florida State League ( Low A )  Clearwater 3 (30-18, 74-38) Dunedin 1 (20-27, 52-61) - seven innings

Clearwater, FL - BayCare Ballpark


Summary :


Dunedin scored in the third inning on a double and single.


Chad Castillo homered in the fifth inning.


Zach Arnold singled in the sixth inning and scored on a double by Felix Reyes.


Cole Moore and Chad Castillo singled in the seventh, Emaarion Boyd singled to score Moore.


The game went into rain delay in the top of the 8th inning. It was eventually called


On the Hill :


Estibenzon Jimenez pitched five innings, one run, four hits, two walks, five strikeouts.  Daniel Harper pitched two perfect innings, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Emaarion Boyd had two hits as did Chad Castillo who singled and homered.  Felix Reyes doubled.  Emaarion Boyd stole his 50th base of the season.

Florida Complex League


Tigers 13 (28-24) Phillies 10 (28-25) - 11 innings

@ Clearwater, FL


Summary :


A single, wild pitch and two ground outs scored a run for the Tigers in the first inning.


Devin Saltiban walked in the bottom of the first, Keaton Anthony reached on an error and Dakota Kotowski walked.  A wild pitch scored a run.  Avery Owusu-Asiedu singled to score two more.


A single, walk and two RBI single by Tigers 2023 # 1 draft pick scored two runs in the second inning.


Two singles and three walks scored two runs for the Tigers in the third.


Keaton Anthony and Dakota Kotowski singled in the bottom of the third, Pierce Bennett walked.  Anthony scored on a ground out. Jared Thomas doubled to score two runs.


A single, triple and stolen base scored two Tigers runs in the fourth inning.


Devin Saltiban singled in the bottom of the fourth, advanced on a balk and scored on a single by Keaton Anthony.


The Tigers scored three in the sixth inning including two on a long home run by Adinso Reyes.


Yemal Flores singled in the bottom of the sixth, advanced on two wild pitches to third and scored on a sac fly by Pierce Bennett.


Marco Soto singled in the seventh, Gavin Tonkel doubled.  After Devin Saltiban reached base on a strikeout/wild pitch Santiago Torres walked to score a run, a throwing error on a stolen base scored another run.


The Tigers scored three in the 11th inning on a three run home run by Brett Callahan.


On the Hill :


Seven pitchers were used in the game, Braydon Tucker, Chase Hopewell and Casey Steward each made their pro debuts by pitching an inning.  Saul Teran pitched two perfect innings, two strikeouts.


At the Bat :


Four batters had two hits apiece, Keaton Anthony, Dakota Kotowski, Marco Soto and Gavin Tonkel.  Tonkel and Jared Thomas each doubled. Avery Owusu-Asiedu posted three RBIs.



Dominican Summer League :


Phillies Red 8 (26-26) Angels 5 (37-17) - seven innings

@ Phillies Training Complex


Summary :


The Angels scored a second inning run on a walk and double.


Jaeden Calderon singled in the bottom of the second, Fernando Hernandez walked.  The both advanced on a passed ball and both scored when Angel Hernandez reached base on a throwing error.


Nolan Beltran singled in the third, and went to third when Alirio Ferrebus reached on an error.  Jaeden Calderon singled to score Beltran. Fernando Hernandez singled to score Ferrebus.


The Angels scored four runs in the fifth inning on four walks and two doubles.


Jaeden Calderon walked in the fifth inning, advanced to third on a ground out and fly out and scored on a single by Jose Leanez.


Renair Manrique and Issac Ramirez walked in the sixth, Manrique scored on a double by Nolan Beltran.  Jaeden Calderon doubled to score two runs.


On the Hill :


Adilson Peralta pitched four innings, one run, three hits, two walks, four strikeouts. Three others followed, Endersen Jean pitched two innings, no runs, one hit, one walk, one strikeout.


At the Bat :


Nolan Beltran had three hits (single, double, triple) as did Jaeden Calderon (two singles & triple).



Phillies White 5 (42-12) Twins 3 (14-36) - seven innings

@ Twins Training Complex


Summary :


Junior Del Valle hit a three run home run for the Twins in the second inning.


Angel Mata and Guillermo Rosario walked in the fourth inning, they both scored on a single by Yemil Rosario and a fielding error by the right fielder.


Jerffson Pena doubled in the fifth and scored when Aroon Escobar reached on an error.  Angel Mata singled to score Escobar.  A subsequent fielding error and ground out permitted Mata to score.


On the Hill :


Three pitchers were used, Angel Liranzo recorded his fifth win of the season by pitching three scoreless innings, no hits, three walks and five strikeouts.  Luis Gonzalez pitched two scoreless frames to close the game.


At the Bat :


Jerffson Pena doubled, the team had three hits in total.



Player Development Center Training - Carpenter Complex :


Saw a few live bullpens today at the complex, pitchers Cam Brown, Brandon Beckel and Paxton Thompson.  Hitters included Aidan Miller, Yhoswar Garcia and Junior Marin.


System Transactions :


Lehigh Valley : RHP Max Kuhns promoted from Reading. C Vito Friscia reinstated from the Development List.   RHP Andrew Bellatti recalled by Philadelphia. RHP Griff McGarry activated.

 

Reading : LHP Jordi Martinez promoted from Jersey Shore. Robbie Glendinning on the 7-day IL (retroactive to 8/18)


Clearwater : RHP Jean Cabrera on the Development List (retroactive to 8/18)


Major League Notes :


The Phillies play in Williamsport tomorrow - five players on the current roster played there before during their minor league development years - Seranthony Dominguez (2016), Ranger Suarez (2016), Alec Bohm (2018), Bryson Stott (2019) and Johan Rojas (2019).
