8/28/26 : Francisco Renteria named DSL MVP
Seventeen year old outfielder Francisco Renteria has been named the 2026 Dominican Summer League (DSL) Most Valuable Player (MVP). He was also named a league all-star and the top MLB prospect in the league. Renteria led the league in triples (9), slugging percentage (.682) and OPS (1.152) and was in the top three in runs, hits, home runs, RBIs and batting average (.379). To my knowledge he’s the first Phillies player to ever win the regular season MVP award. Outfielder Raylin Heredia (now excelling at Reading) was the 2022 DSL playoff MVP when the Phillies White squad won the league championship.
Since I began writing about Phillies player development in 2015 there have been eight previous players win various league MVP honors - six of which eventually played or are currently playing in the major leagues.
