9/17/23 : Week Twenty-Four Minor League Review (9/12 to 9/17)

After Lehigh Valley and Reading went 6-6 this week the seven clubs in the system are now a cumulative 388-313 in the regular season for a winning percentage of .553.

Lehigh Valley stayed in the mix for a second half International League title, they trail the Durham Bulls by two games with six left to play next week.  Darick Hall had a big offensive showing going  8 for 21 (.381) with seven runs scored, double, home run, five RBIs, six walks, .519 OBP  while teammate Kody Clemens hit four home runs and drove in eight runs during the week.

Reading got three standout starting pitching performances from Mick Abel, David Parkinson and Matt Osterberg.  Orion Kerkering continued to impress with two scoreless relief appearances and don’t look now but McKinley Moore made three scoreless relief appearances, he made the Phillies opening day roster but has battled injuries for most of the summer, this week was a good sign in that he struck out seven and walked just one in three innings of work.

Clearwater and Jersey Shore played divisional playoff games.  After Caleb Ricketts hit a clutch eighth inning home run in game one of the series for Jersey Shore to lead them to a win the scene shifted to Hudson Valley where the Renegades won the next two games to advance to the South Atlantic League championship series.  It was a great year for the Jersey Shore squad, many of those that finished the year were also members of the first half champion Clearwater Threshers as well - for those players they celebrated regular season titles twice. 🤓

Clearwater advanced to the Florida State League championship series with a 2-1 division series victory over Lakeland.  Aidan Miller hit a two run home run in the decisive game three and Jean Cabrera dominated on the mound in a shutout win in game one.  They lost the first game of the championship series on Sunday 8-7 to Jupiter with game two slated for Tuesday.
