Today marks the start of the 2020-2021 international signing period ... delayed from last July.
The Phillies have an allocation of $4.7 million to spend. It’s expected that they will sign Dominican power hitting outfielder Yemel Flores and Venezuelan Catcher Rickardo Perez as their top recruits.
Flores is 16 years old and is noted by Baseball America as having a physical build and for his raw power and strong arm. Perez is a left handed hitter and is 17 years old ... he’s noted for his defensive skills and has shown decent power as a hitter. Perez is rated as the ninth best international prospect by Baseball America.
Also expected to sign with the Phillies are Venezuelan shortstops Marcos Soto and Leonardo Rondon as well as Dominican shortstop Yamil Rosario. Raylin Heredia - a Dominican outfielder is expected to sign with the Phillies as well.
Update - 9:00 PM - additional signings
