1/18/2021 : Phillies trade for CJ Chatham

The Phillies have acquired shortstop CJ Chatham from the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named later. Chatham was the Red Sox 2nd round draft pick in the 2016 draft from Florida Atlantic University. He’s 26 years old and hit .298 between Double and Triple A in 2019 with 31 doubles, 5 home runs and 46 RBIs. He’s a career .298 hitter in 266 minor league games ( 1,106 Plate Appearances ) with 57 doubles and 14 home runs.

Chatham is 6’4” 185 and is well regarded as a defender at shortstop .... he’s shown ideal range and arm strength to play big league shortstop. Some in the Red Sox organization believed he would be the replacement for Dustin Pedroia at second base.

Hopes are that at the least Chatham competes for an infield reserve utility role or is on the Lehigh Iron Pigs roster ... at the most he captures the starting shortstop job for the big club. 🧐

To make room on the 40 man roster for Chatham the Phillies designated RHP Victor Arano for assignment.

From a fan’s view welcome to the Phillies CJ and best wishes to Victor as his career moves forward as well.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
