The initial Phillies group workout for 2023 will begin on January 9th as multiple minor league players will report to Clearwater for the third “High Performance Camp” of the off season. In addition players on rehab assignment will be back at the complex. The organization has 190 U.S. based minor league roster spots availed to them ( as per MLB rule ) for the off-season which includes training camp - that number reduces to 180 once the official minor league games begin in April. Players placed on the long term 60 day injured list do not count towards the totals however players cannot be placed on the injury list during the off-season. Ultimately there will be at least 14 players on the major league 40 man roster that will count against the allotted 180 player in season limit - they do not count against the off-season 190 player total till they are optioned back to the minor leagues during spring camp. There are at least ten players that I am aware of that will begin the 2023 season on the 60 day IL as they continue to work back from injuries.
