The Phillies have signed 29 year RHP Bryan Mitchell to a minor league contract with an invitation to big league spring training. Mitchell was the Yankees 16th round draft selection in the 2009 draft. He’s from Reidsville, NC.
Mitchell appeared in 64 major league games from 2014 to 2018 with the Yankees and Padres. He made 20 starts. He pitched in 17 games in the Padres minor league system in 2019. Signed with the White Sox in January of 2020 and was a participant in their alternate camp during the 2020 season.
He has a arsenal of pitches ... throws a 92 mph cutter coupled with a 96/97 FB. His curveball when on, features sharp break with tight spin. Just looking at him stuff-wise, perhaps a strong bullpen piece 🤔.
