The Phillies have signed 34 year old RHP Ivan Nova to a minor league contract with an invitation to big league Spring Training.
Nova has pitched in eleven big league seasons ... most recently with Detroit in 2020. Prior to that he pitched for the White Sox, Yankees and Pirates. He’s got a career record of 90-77 and has logged 1,347 big league innings.
He throws a low-90's fastball, a two-seam/sinker with very good command. He’s a ground ball machine when on ... the curveball and changeup are his best pitches with the big breaking curveball as his strikeout pitch using the changeup early in counts to induce ground balls.
Could be a back end of the rotation piece if he makes the big club ... would earn $1.5 million if he does so.
