Workouts continued for camp participants. While the emphasis is on strength training and conditioning the winter version of HP Camp has far more baseball practice activities that the Fall version.
HP Camp workouts were back on the complex training fields as Phantasy Camp has concluded. Pitchers’ fielding drills were held on Schmidt field while position players did their fielding drills on Carlton field. BP work continued in the indoor cages.
Fourteen pitchers threw side bullpen sessions today on the seven mounds - Angel Liranzo, Titan Kennedy-Hayes, Peyton Havard, Keegan Batka, Zuher Yousuf, Tyler Bowen, Richie Cortese, Jonathan Gonzalez, Alexander De Los Santos, Brad Pacheco, Matt Potok, Jacob Pruitt, Matthew Fisher and Gabriel Barbosa.
Camp Spotlight :
Right handed pitchers Tyler Bowen and Richie Cortese were college teammates at Lander University in South Carolina - Bowen was selected in the 12th round of the 2025 draft and Cortese in the 17th round.
Tyler is a Delaware native - he graduated from Indian River High School in Sussex County, Delaware in 2021 and had committed to transferring from Lander to the University of Oregon before signing with the Phillies. He missed the 2024 season after having an internal brace placed in his right elbow in November of 2023 but returned to have a strong 2025 campaign. Back to full competition he features a mid nineties fastball (95-98 mph) and sharp slider, there’s a projection that his fastball can reach triple digits - he’s a strikeout pitcher who was a backend reliever in college. Has yet to pitch in an official pro game but has worked hard on adding a third pitch during his time in August Draft Camp and the two HP camps.
Richie is from Laurel, Montana and initially pitched collegiately at Dickinson State University in North Dakota before transferring to Lander University. He was a two way player at Dickinson but turned to full time pitching at Lander. He’s noted for a workmanlike attitude and approach - a hard worker who takes nothing for granted. He’s a grinder who will battle to win and give ya everything he’s got in doing so - features a four seam fastball (93-95 mph touches 97), slider and a curveball. Richie also worked exclusively at the complex in August draft camp and the two HP Camps and is looking forward to making his pro debut this season.
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
