The highlight of the day was a round of BP on Roberts field - four powerfully built young men (Leandro Pineda, Aidan Miller, Gabriel Rincones Jr and Otto Kemp) participated in an extra BP session. All four have the size to play for the NFC champion Eagles 🤓.  Rincones Jr in particular is built like a tight end and Miller has the leg muscles of a running back.

Otto Kemp hit the scoreboard with an easy swing on a ball that initially looked like it was too high to leave the yard but it just kept going and clanked off the top of the board in left center field. He hit the next two pitches out as well. Aidan Miller showed a really clean and efficient swing - ball jumps off the bat. Leandro Pineda has always been a favorite of mine - pure lefty swing with ability to hit to all fields. Gabriel Rincones Jr is gonna turn heads in big league camp - very powerful young man from the left side of the plate - can drive it out to all fields.  Was a fun group to watch - good stuff!

Infield/Outfield/Throwing :

In addition to the strength and conditioning work throwing programs continued today for everyone. No pitchers threw side bullpens - those will likely resume tomorrow. Watched infield a bit - twenty year old shortstop Bryan Rincon is very smooth with his glove and footwork - has a big league skill set as a defender. Nolan Beltran put in good work today at third base - he’s noticeably bigger (in a good way 🤓) than when we saw him last summer in the FCL - Nolan played winter ball this year in his native country of Colombia - just twenty years old - he could make a run for a Threshers opening day roster spot.

The Phillies focus on strength and conditioning and commitment to Fall and Winter HP camps stands out each day I watch practices - years back the players in camp lacked physicality - that’s certainly no longer the case - these athletes are in great condition and project  strength - is very evident in the different drills I observe. It’s a recipe for success!

Other Notes - Winter League Roundup

The Charros de Jalisco defeated the Tomateros de Culiacán 9-6 (13 innings) in game six of the Mexican Pacific League championship series to win the title 4 games to 2. Shortstop Luis Verdugo went 1 for 5 (double) for Culiacan and former Phillies infielder Esteban Quiroz was 2 for 5 (single and double). It’s the third championship title for Jalisco in it’s ten year history. It marks the end of the 80th season in Mexican Pacific League play. The Charros de Jalisco will now represent Mexico in the 2025 Caribbean Series.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
