1/31/23 : Phillies Minor League Player Development Administration & Field Staff

Player Development Administration :


Director - Player Development - Preston Mattingly - begins his second season in the lead PD role with the Phillies - previously spent five years with the San Diego Padres organization - his last year there as Coordinator of Major League advance scouting and game planning.  Introduced the “Protect the Standard” platform to the Player Development staff focused on communication, mindset and approach.


Special Assistant to Director of Player Development - Matt Martin - joined the Phillies last summer - broad experience in professional baseball including as a player, minor league coach and manager, major league defensive coordinator ( Tigers ) and major league Assistant Coach/Replay Coordinator ( Angels ).


Assistant Director - Player Development  - Dana Parks - begins her 6th season with the organization, served as Coordinator of Player development from 2017 to 2021 when she was promoted to her current role.  Prior to joining the Phillies Dana worked for the Tampa Rays as an assistant in baseball operations for five years.


Manager - Player Development - Edwin Soto was promoted from the role of Administrator of Minor League Baseball Operation in November of 2021.  He manages and oversees Player Development reporting directly to the Director of PD.  Edwin has been with the Phillies since 2018 and has a Masters Degree in Business and Technology from East Tennessee State University.


Assistant - Player Development - Jake Primack - worked in the role as an intern last summer and hired full time for this season - is a 2021 graduate of Denison University with degrees in Data Analytics, Economics and Global Commerce.


U.S. Administrator - Jose Hidalgo - begins his second season with the Phillies - holds a Masters Degree in Sport and Fitness Management from Florida State University.  Worked in 2021 for the Twins organization in Florida Operations.


Minor League Coordinators, Roving & Support Staff :


Field Coordinator - Kevin Bradshaw  - starts his second season with the Phillies, spent 14 seasons as a manager in the Tigers organization beginning in 1994 after serving as a coach for four years prior, was the minor league defensive coordinator for the Tigers in 2008-2011 and minor league field coordinator in 2012 and finished as defensive coordinator thru the 2013 and 2014 seasons.   He joined the Orioles in 2015 and has been a manager, spring training and fall instructs coordinator with them.  He was the Orioles Team Black manager in the 2021 Florida Complex League.


Coordinator - Dominican Academy - Manny Amador - Following a playing career in the minor leagues that began in 1993 he turned his attention to coaching and player development in 1998.  Became the hitting instructor for Phillies Dominican Summer League team in 1999 and held that position till 2001.  During the 2001 season he went to Reading to finish the season as the AA level hitting coach after John Kruk’s departure there.  Manny served as hitting coach for the Clearwater Phillies for the 2002 thru 2004 season and as Manager of Batavia in 2005. In 2006 Amador took over managing the Phillies Dominican Academy operations.  In addition to his administrative duties he continued to work in player development as well.  From 2011 to 2016 he also served as the DSL Phillies field manager.  When the Phillies opened their own Academy building in 2017 Manny was officially named as the Dominican Coordinator, his current position.


Latin America Hitting Coordinator/ Special Advisor to International Scouting - Edwar Gonzalez - was the Marlins major league Assistant Hitting Coach in 2022 - prior to that was Miami’s minor league hitting coordinator for two seasons and nine seasons before that was a coach within the New York Yankees system.   He played in the Yankees minor league system from 2002 to 2010 appearing in 770 games.


Director of Hitting :  Luke Murton - comes to the Phillies from the San Diego Padres where he’s been a Baseball Operations Advisor and Scouting Cross Checker since October of 2018.  Prior to that he was a scout with the San Francisco Giants from 2015 to 2018 and a minor league coach with the Boston Red Sox before that.  He’s owned and operated a hitting instruction business since 2009.  Luke played collegiate baseball at Georgia Tech University - was the Yankees 19th round draft selection in the 2009 draft - played five seasons in the Yankees system as a first baseman and hit 25 home runs for AA level Trenton on 2012.  He was released by the Yankees in 2013 and played two more seasons in the Red Sox system before turning to coaching.


Upper-Level Hitting Coordinator/Development Analyst - Kevin Mahala - was Phillies player information assistant from 2020 to 2021 - became the Offensive Development Analyst in November of 2021 and was promoted to Upper-Level Hitting Coordinator/Development Analyst during the 2022 off season.  Played in the Pirates organization from 2016 to 2018 after playing collegiate baseball at West Virginia.


Lower-Level Hitting Coordinator/Development Analyst - Jake Elmore - served as hitting coach for the Clearwater Threshers in 2022 and as the Phillies designated coach for the Arizona Fall League.  Jake was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 34th round of the 2008 draft and played 217 games in the major leagues from 2012 to 2019 with the D’Backs, Astros, Reds, Rays, Brewers and Pirates.  He concluded his playing career in 2021 as a member of the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs when he was released on August 24th.


Pitching Coordinator - Travis Hergert - starts his 5th season with the Phillies beginning as assistant pitching coordinator and being promoted to Pitching coordinator in 2021.  Prior to that he served 7 years as the head coach at North Iowa Community College and 9 years before that as an Assistant Coach there.


Upper-Level Pitching Coordinator/Development Analyst - Mark Lowy - graduate of Gettysburg College - in his second year with the Phillies, was titled Pitching Development Analyst previously - promoted to Upper-Level Pitching Coordinator/Development Analyst during the 2022 off season.  He served as Associate Pitching Coordinator for Cressy Sports Performance for two and half years, before that as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for 16 months. Director of Sports Performance at Gains Sports Performance from 2018 to 2019.


Lower-Level Pitching Coordinator/Development Analyst - Victor Diaz was the Pitching Coach for the Clearwater Threshers in 2022 - promoted to Lower-Level Pitching Coordinator/Development Analyst during the 2022 off season.  He was the Pitching Coach for the Phillies in the Florida Complex League in 2021.  Diaz previously coached at Embry-Riddle University in Daytona, Florida as their pitching coach from 2018 to 2020.  Prior to that he served as a volunteer assistant at Old Dominion University.  Diaz pitched collegiate baseball for Mississippi State University and Old Dominion.


Rehab Pitching Coordinator - Aaron Barrett - begins his first season as rehab coordinator - retired from play last season with the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs and served as bullpen coach for half the season.  Played eleven seasons in professional baseball including parts of four seasons in the major leagues ( appeared in 95 games - 74 IP with the Nationals ).


Florida Complex Coordinator - Keith Werman - was manager of the Jersey Shore Blue Claws last season - served the prior four seasons as Major League development coordinator for the Padres.  Was the third base coach for their Triple-A affiliate in El Paso during 2017.  Werman played collegiate baseball at the University of Virginia as well as in the Seattle Mariners system from 2012 to 2013 as a utility infielder after signing as an un-drafted free agent.


Infield Coordinator - Adam Everett - begins his second season with the Phillies as Infield Coordinator, played shortstop in the majors for 11 years with Houston, Minnesota, Detroit and Cleveland.  Began his coaching career in 2014 with Houston and stayed with them till 2017 before moving to the Atlanta Braves and serving as their Minor League Infield Coordinator thru the 2019 season.


Outfield Coordinator- Andy Abad - begins his 14th season with the Phillies organization as a coach, spent a good chunk of the 2022 season with the major league club coaching outfielders.  He played 15 games in the major leagues with the A’s, Red Sox and Reds and 14 years in the minor leagues with six organizations.


MILB Medical Operations Liaison - Troy Hoffert - has been with the Phillies since 1992 serving as a trainer at multiple affiliates over the years.  Has been the long time trainer of the GCL/FCL Phillies.  A graduate of Salem State University with a masters degree from Temple University in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine.


Nutrition Coordinator - Stephanie MacNeill - started as a Performance Nutrition Fellow in March of 2021 and was hired as minor league Coordinator in November of 2021 - promoted to her current title in November of 2022.  She is a registered dietitian and personal trainer and hails from Canada.


Minor League Strength & Training Coordinator - Patrick Trainor - joined the Phillies last season from the Tampa Rays organization ( 2016 - 2021 ) where he served as their Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coordinator.  Prior to that worked for the Cleveland Guardians for two years as Rehab Strength & Conditioning Coach - has a masters degree in Kinesiology from Georgia Southern University.


Assistant Minor League Strength & Training Coordinator - Jose Salas - starts his 9th year with the Phillies. He previously was with the Braves organization. Bachelors degree from Culver-Stockton College and a masters degree in Kinesiology from Tarleton State University.


Mental Performance Scouting & Rehab Coordinator - Traci Statler - holds a doctorate degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from the University of Utah - joined the Phillies organization in June of 2022.  Previously was an Associate Professor of Applied Sport and Performance Psychology at California State University, Fullerton and the Associate Director of Graduate Studies.


Mental Performance Coach - Frances Cardenas - has been with the organization since February of 2019 first serving as an intern in 2019 and then becoming a full time employee in November of that year being named Mental Skills Coach.  Has a bachelors degree from the University of Tampa and a masters degree in Mental Health Counseling and Sports Psychology from Boston University.


Video Coordinator - Connor Carroll - was named minor league video coordinator in 2022 after spending two seasons as Assistant Video Coordinator and two years prior to that as a player development associate. Graduated from Farmingdale State College with a bachelors degree in sports management.


Assistant Video Coordinator - Thomas Knauss - starts his second year in the role - served as a Player Development Associate with Reading in 2021, BS Degree in Sports Management from the University of Minnesota.


Coordinator - Minor League Equipment - Josh Glazman - has been with the Phillies organization since June of 2015 when he began as the Clubhouse Manager of the Williamsport CrossCutters - named Operations Assistant in 2017 at Clearwater - was promoted to Coordinator role in February of 2022.  A graduate of Florida State University with a bachelors degree in Sports Management.


Coordinator - Clubhouse Services - Carpenter Complex - Vince Pezzino - worked as clubhouse equipment manager for the Dunedin Blue Jays before coming to the Phillies in 2018 - named to his current role in January of 2022 - has a bachelors degree in marketing from the University of South Florida and Associates degrees in Computer Programming and Business/Commerce from St Petersburg College.


Minor League Rehab Coordinator - Justin Tallard - previously a physical therapist with the Houston Astros, a physical therapist at Texas Health and most recently a course developer at 5 Tool Sport.



AAA Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs :


Manager - Anthony Contreras - returns for 2nd season with Lehigh Valley - previously served as Manager of the Fort Wayne Tin Caps for six years and is the all time wins leader for the High A Affiliate of the San Diego Padres.  In 2014 he managed the Arizona Complex team for the Padres, the following year he was at the helm of the short-season Tri-City Dust Devils.  Contreras played nine seasons of minor league baseball after being drafted in the 9th round of the 2005 draft by the Giants, he moved to the Padres organization in 2008 and played thru the 2013 season finishing with the Lancaster Barnstormers of the independent Atlantic League.  He was primarily a middle infielder seeing most of his action at second base and shortstop.  Contreras managed the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League for the 2021 season.


Bench Coach - Pat Listach - returns for 2nd season with the Phillies - last year was at Jersey Shore - was the AL Rookie of the Year in 1992 as the everyday shortstop for the Brewers.  He played six seasons in the majors from 1992 to 1997 with the Brewers and Astros.  Listach finished his playing career in 1998 at the triple A level with Buffalo ( Cleveland ) and Scranton Wilkes-Barre ( Phillies ).  He ventured into coaching with the Cubs organization as a hitting instructor in 1999 and stayed with the Cubs thru the 2007 season when he served as Manager of the AA level Tennessee Smokies.  He joined the Washington Nationals as their major league third base coach in 2009 and 2010 and rejoined the Cubs in 2011 as major league bench coach.  In 2013 he was the Dodgers minor league infield coordinator before becoming the Astros big league third base coach in 2014.  In 2015 he became the manager of the Mariners AAA affiliate Tacoma Rainers, a position he held thru the 2017 season.


Hitting Coach - Joe Thurston - returns for 2nd season with Lehigh Valley - previously served as hitting coach for the 2021 Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League.  He was hired by the Seattle Mariners as their major league first base and outfield coach as a fill in for Perry Hill ( out with Covid ) prior to the 2020 season.  In 2021 he was the hitting coach for AA Arkansas for the Mariners.  Thurston began his coaching career when he joined the Red Sox organization at the AA level in 2015.  He was then a coach in independent league baseball for Billings in 2016 and moved to the Mariners organization as a coach in 2017-2018 with Modesto and in Everett for 2019.   He played parts of seven seasons in the major leagues ( 184 games ) with the Dodgers, Phillies, Marlins, Cardinals and Red Sox and 13 seasons ( 1,496 games ) in the minor leagues primarily as a second baseman.


Pitching Coach - Cesar Ramos - returns for second season with Lehigh Valley - joined the Phillies player development staff in 2020 as a Player Information Assistant.  During the 2021 season he worked primarily at the Complex with rehabbing pitchers.  Ramos was the 1st round draft choice of the Padres in the 2005 draft and pitched 8 seasons in the majors from 2009 to 2016 with the Padres, A’s, Rangers and Angels. He was in spring training camp with the Phillies in 2017 and pitched that season with the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs appearing in 40 games. Ramos was in Dodgers spring camp in 2018 before retiring as a player.  In addition to his time in the majors he pitched 10 seasons overall in the minors.


Assistant Pitching Coach Ryan Buchter - begins his first season as a coach after playing seven seasons in the major leagues ( 2014 thru 2021 ) with the Braves, Padres, Royals, A’s, Angels & Diamondbacks.  He pitched in 285 major league games ( 236 1/3 IP ) posting a 17-6 record and 3.16 ERA as a reliever.  He’s a graduate of Rowan College and Highland Regional High School in New Jersey and was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 33rd round of the 2005 draft.


Athletic Trainer - Andrew Dodgson - served at Reading for the 2022 season - was the trainer for the Jersey Shore Blue Claws from 2020 to 2021, two years before that served in the same capacity with the GCL  Phillies in Clearwater.


Assistant Athletic Trainer - Makenna Behrens - second year with the Phillies organization - was hired in February of 2022 - holds a masters degree in Athletic training from the University of Idaho and interned at the University of Tennessee.


Strength and Conditioning Coach - Mike Lidge - returns for 2nd season with Lehigh Valley - was previously the strength and conditioning coach for the Clearwater Threshers ( 2026 - 2021 ).  Previously with the San Francisco Giants organization, a graduate of University of Illinois - Urbana with a masters degree in exercise science from Northeastern University.


AA Reading Fightin’s  :


Manager - Al Pedrique begins his first season with Reading and the Phillies - he was the third base coach for the Miami Marlins on Don Mattingly’s staff in 2022 - “After his playing career ended spent several seasons as a minor league coach and manager. He managed the 1995 Spokane Indians,  1996-1997 GCL Royals, 1999-2000 Michigan Battle Cats, 2001 El Paso Diablos and 2002-2003 Tucson Sidewinders.  He served as a coach with the Arizona Dbacks in 2004 before being promoted to interim manager in mid-season. After the 2004 season, he joined the Astros organization and worked in the team's front office as a special assistant to the general manager. He was the director of Latin American operations in 2007. In 2009 he became the Astros' minor league field coordinator. Pedrique was a coach for the Astros from 2010 to 2012 m then returned to the minors as manager of the Charleston River Dogs in 2013. He managed the AAA affiliate ( Scranton Wilkes Barre ) of the Yankees in 2016 and 2017, leading them to the AAA national title the first year and the league finals the second.  In 2018 he returned to the majors when he was named first-base coach of the Athletics after having been considered for several managerial openings that off-season. In 2020, he switched to the third base coach position. In 2021, he was back managing in the minors, with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp ( Marlins ).” - Baseball Reference


Hitting Coach - Tyler Henson - 2019 to present with Reading - became a coach with the Phillies in 2017 at Williamsport , with Lakewood in 2018, and began in Clearwater in 2019 before moving up to Reading.  Played ten seasons of minor league baseball as an infielder with the Orioles, Dodgers and Phillies organizations.


Pitching Coach - Brad Bergesen returns to Reading after spending last season with Jersey Shore - was at  Reading in 2021.  Bergenson coached at Lakewood in 2018 and in Clearwater in 2019.  He was drafted by the Orioles in the 4th round in the 2004 draft and pitched parts of four seasons in the major leagues with the Orioles and Diamondbacks from 2009 to 2012 appearing in 102 games.  Finished his playing career in 2017 as a member of the Lancaster Barnstormers in the Atlantic League.  He’s a well regarded communicator and is being positioned to work with the young upcoming pitching talent in the organization.


Coach Ray Ricker - will be his first season at Reading - coached with Clearwater in 2022 - served as an FCL Phillies coach in 2021.  He was the head baseball coach at Post University from 2014 to 2020 and served seven years prior to that as an assistant coach. Coaches the catchers as primary part of his duties.


Strength and Conditioning Coach - Bruce Peditto returns to Reading for a second season - served as strength and conditioning coach for Lakewood/Jersey Shore from 2019 to 2021.  Bruce has been with the Phillies organization since 2017 and is a graduate of Desales University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Sports and Exercise Science.


Trainer - Steve Torregrossa - served at Jersey Shore for the 2022 season after spending 2021 with Lehigh Valley (AAA) as assistant athletic trainer. Was previously with Clearwater (A) in 2020 and spent two seasons (2018-19) with Williamsport (A). Also interned for two seasons (2016-17). Attained his bachelor’s degree in science, athletic training from East Stroudsburg University (PA) and is currently working toward his master’s degree from the California University of Pennsylvania.



High A Jersey Shore  Blue Claws :


Manager - Greg Brodzinski - will be his first year as a manager - served last season as bench/third base coach for AAA Lehigh Valley -prior to that spent two seasons as a bullpen catcher/catching coach with the major league team.  He had previously coached at Williamsport and Reading.  Greg was drafted by the Phillies in the 18th round of the 2015 draft.   He played one season before switching over to coaching for the 2016 season.   He’s a very hard worker and has a great baseball mind.


Bench Coach - Chris “Tank” Adamson comes back to Jersey Shore ( was manager in 2021 ) as bench coach after managing the FCL Phillies at the Complex in 2022.   He’s also the skipper of the Adelaide Giants in the Australian Baseball League.


Hitting Coach - Brock Stassi - was the Phillies 33rd round draft selection in the 2011 draft - played 10 minor league seasons - outstanding fielder at first base who also played in 51 major league games with the 2017 Phillies.  Was the Eastern League MVP in 2015 with Reading.  Coached in 2020 and 2022 with William Jessup University - played in the Atlantic League for Long Island in 2021 and later signed with the Phillies for a second time in June of that year playing in 25 games for Reading.  Played in the Phillies, Twins and Giants organizations.  This will be his first season as a professional affiliated coach.


Pitching Coach Phil Cundari - comes from the Blue Jays where he served the last two seasons as Pitching Coach for the Vancouver Canadians -  Toronto’s High A affiliate.  Prior to that he was pitching coach at Rutgers from 2018 to 2019 and spent the previous 17 seasons on the staff at Seton Hall as Pitching Coach and Associate Head Coach.  Cundari was drafted in the fourth round by the Oakland Athletics in 1985 and pitched four seasons in the organization, reaching as high as the AA level in 1987 before his career was cut short by an arm injury.  Off the baseball field he runs his own private practice as a sports performance consultant - is a licensed psychotherapist specializing in peak performance and mental toughness training for athletes of all levels.


Pitching Development Coach - Brady Lail - first season as a coach after playing eleven seasons as a professional reliever - finished his playing career last season with High Point in the independent Atlantic League.  Pitched in 11 major league games over three seasons with the Yankees, White Sox and Mariners.  Appeared in 31 games with the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs in 2021.


Athletic Trainer - Meaghan Flaherty - was Assistant Athletic Trainer with Lehigh Valley  in 2022 - was the Athletic Trainer for the Clearwater Threshers in 2021 and the FCL Phillies the year prior.  Graduate of the University of Massachusetts - Amherst with a Masters of Science in Athletic Training from Bridgewater State University.


Strength & Training Coach - Mark Jesse  - second year with the Phillies after working at Cressy Sports Performance and Tim Soder Physical Therapy.  Earned a Master of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology and Sport Performance from West Chester University in 2019.  Was with the FCL Phillies in 2022


Low A Clearwater Threshers  :


Manager Marty Malloy returns for fourth year at Clearwater  ( 2019, 2021-2022   ).  He became a coach with the Gulf Coast League Astros in 2013 then managed the same club in 2014-2016.  He moved to the Phillies organization as manager at Lakewood in 2017 and managed there thru the 2018 season.  After managing the Threshers in 2019 was named the organization’s Infield Coordinator in 2020 and served as such until being needed at the helm of the Threshers again mid season 2021.  He played 35 games in the big leagues with Atlanta ( 1998 )  and the Marlins ( 2002 ) and twelve seasons in the minors with the Braves, Tigers, Reds, Dodgers and Cardinals organizations primarily as a middle infielder.


Pitching Coach Matt Hockenberry moves to Clearwater after serving as pitching coach with Reading in 2022 after serving as Pitching Coach in the GCL for 2018 and at Jersey Shore for 2019 and 2021.  Matt pitched in the Phillies organization from 2014 to 2017 after being drafted in the 9th round of the 2014 draft out of Temple University.


Position Coach - Mycal Jones - spent last season with Reading as coach -  was drafted by the Braves in the fourth round of the 2009 Draft and spent seven seasons in the minors and another in independent ball prior to becoming a minor league coach with Houston in 2018 as a development coach.  He was scheduled to be a coach for the Threshers in 2020 before the season was cancelled.  He split time with the Threshers and the FCL Phillies in 2021.


Hitting Coach - Chris Heinz - begins his 6th year with the Phillies.  For the past three years he’s served as the assistant hitting coordinator. Was on the Threshers and FCL staff prior to that.  Played in the Twins organization from 2003 to 2007 and coached for them in the minors in 2009 before joining the University of South Florida as an assistant coach in 2010 where he served for five seasons.


Athletic Trainer - Samantha Myers - has been with the Phillies since December of 2019 in different roles as a medical operations liaison and trainer.  Previously was with the Mets organization as an intern - holds a Masters degree in Applied Exercise Science from Concordia University.


Strength & Conditioning Coach - Joseph Miranda - joined the Phillies in January of 2023 - previously has been a strength and conditioning coach with the Marlins, Reds and Red Sox organizations and was a Physical Performance Coach with the Rockies organization prior to that - holds a Masters degree in exercise science from George Washington University.



Florida Complex League Phillies  :


Manager - Shawn Williams - returns to Clearwater per his request to manage on the backfields - spent the last three seasons at the helm in Reading after guiding the Clearwater Threshers from 2017 to 2018.  In 2018, the Threshers won the second-half title in the Florida State League North Division.  Prior to his time in Clearwater, Williams also managed in Lakewood (A) for two seasons (2015-2016). He joined the Phillies player developmental staff in 2014 as a manager for Williamsport (A). Williams spent the month of April as a fill-in bullpen catcher and also served as a player/coach for Williamsport in 2013. He spent four seasons in the Tampa Bay Rays minor league system as a utility player from 2007-2010. 

 

Complex Hitting Initiatives Coach Zac Jones - comes back stateside after spending last season as a hitting coach at the Dominican Academy - coached the FCL Phillies in 2021.  Played with the Diamondbacks organization as a Catcher in 2018 before turning his attention to coaching.  Went to Trinity Christian College in Illinois.


Hitting Coach - Rafael Delima - second consecutive season with the FCL Phillies - became manager of the VSL Phillies when the club was formed in 2005; he had already been coordinating the Venezuelan academy for several years. Came stateside to coach for Williamsport ( 2012 ), the GCL Phillies ( 2013-2019 ) and the Jersey Shore Blue Claws in 2021.


Hitting Development Coach - Sarah Edwards - joined the Phillies organization in January of 2023 - becomes the first female baseball coach in team history - is a former professional softball player in the World Baseball Softball Confederation - most recently was Softball Recruiting Manager for Baseball Jobs Overseas.  Played collegiate softball for Hofstra University.


Player Development Instructor - Roly DeArmas - begins his 37th year as a Phillies minor league manager/coach  - legendary Phillies coach/manager who also serves as bullpen coach for Team USA.  He’s been in pro baseball since 1973 - first as a player for five seasons and since as a minor league Manager/Coach.  He’s also coached in the Major Leagues with the White Sox, Blue Jays and Phillies.  Tremendous baseball knowledge and a vital asset to the organization.


Player Development Instructor - Sean Rodriquez - begins his second season as a coach at the complex - played in 13 major league seasons with six organizations including the Phillies.


Player Development Instructor - John Ryan Murphy - first season as a coach - played ten seasons of professional baseball as a catcher including appearing in 8 seasons in the major leagues ( 284 games - 737 PA’s ) with the  Diamondbacks, Yankees, Twins, Pirates and Braves.


Pitching Development Coach Gustavo Armas - begins his second year as a coach after working with the Phillies organization in 2021 as a video coordinator in Clearwater.  He played six seasons ( 2014 - 2019 ) in the Phillies minor leagues as a pitcher reaching double A Reading in 2019.


Pitching Development Coach Ryan McCauley  - joined the Phillies in July of 2022 taking the helm as FCL pitching coach - was Assistant Baseball Coach at Troy University prior to that as well as a Pitching Coach at Cressy Sports Performance - played professionally in the Cubs organization from 2018 to 2020 after playing collegiately at Michigan State University.


Position Coach  - Gary Cathcart - begins his second season with the Phillies - last year was base running coordinator, was selected by the Yankees in the 33rd round of the 1984 draft and played five seasons in the minors, all in the Yankees organization as an outfielder.  After initially coaching in independent and college baseball he joined the Blue Jays in 2003 as their hitting coach for Advanced A level Dunedin.  He stayed with the Blue Jays organization thru the 2009 season and worked his way up to Manager of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats his last two seasons with them.  In 2010 he joined the Washington Nationals organization and managed in their system thru the 2015 season, in 2016 Cathcart moved to the Miami Marlins initially as their outfield and base running coordinator and eventually becoming the Minor League Field Coordinator, dual roles he maintained thru the 2017 season.   The Tigers hired him the next year and he worked for them thru 2021 serving as the manager of the Tigers East squad in the Florida Complex League.


Athletic Trainer - Keita Isaji - joins the Phillies from Middle Tennessee State University where he served as Athletic Trainer.


Strength & Training Coach - Blaine Taylor - 2nd season at Clearwater after coming over from the Reds where he worked for three years ( 2017 - 2020 ) with their short season club.  Was employed in 2021 as an EMT/Firefighter in Silverdale, Washington.

Dominican Summer League Phillies Red  :


Manager - Nerluis Martinez - second season as manager in the DSL - was a player/coach with the Reading Phillies since 2019 becoming a full time coach in 2021.  Played for the Phillies organization in the minor leagues as a catcher from 2015 to 2018.


Pitching Coach - Alex Concepcion - pitched in the Phillies organization from 2005 to 2011.  Has been a pitching coach since then in the DSL.


Coach - Waner Santana - In 2010 was the strength and conditioning coach for the DSL Phillies.  Served as manager of Phillies Red from2017-2021.  Played minor league baseball in the Giants organization as a middle infielder from 2000 to 2002.


Hitting Coach Manny Martinez  - was Manager of the DSL Mets from 2015 thru 2022 - played in three major league seasons in the 1990’s with the Phillies, Mariners, Pirates and Expos.   Has a vast amount of coaching and managing experience.


Athletic Trainer - Francois Martel - joined the Phillies organization in January of 2023 - holds a masters degree in Athletic Training from Ohio University

Dominican Summer League Phillies White  :



Manager - Orlando Munoz - has been with the organization since 2017.  A former infielder who played six seasons in the California Angels system, Muñoz coached and managed for 20 years in the Venezuelan Winter League and Italian Baseball League from 1997-2016, prior to joining the Phillies. 2021 John Vukovich Award winner.


Hitting Coach Samuel Hiciano - has served as hitting coach since 2017. Played in the Phillies organization as an outfielder from 2012 to 2016.


Pitching Coach - Les Straker - has been the pitching coach since 2017. Played ten seasons of minor league baseball and pitched for the Minnesota Twins in the majors in 1987 and 1988.


Position Coach - Felix Castillo - has been a Phillies DSL coach since the 2019 season.  Played minor league baseball from 2010 to 2015 as a catcher.
