1/6/23 : Phillies sign RHP Jon Duplantier to minor league deal

Updated: Jan 6, 2023

The 28 year old born in Newark, Delaware pitched last season for Oklahoma City ( Dodgers AAA affiliate ) posting a 5-3 record in 34 appearances ( 14 starts ) - his last 10 appearances were all starts.  His ERA was 4.80 in 93 2/3 IP and he registered 109 K’s against 57 walks.  He was the 3rd round draft selection of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2016 from Rice University and has appeared in 19 major league games over 2 seasons ( 6.70 ERA in 49 2/3 IP with 46 K’s & 26 walks ).

Duplantier spent parts of his childhood in Dubai & Jakarta as his father worked in the oil & gas industry - he later graduated from Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas.

His fastball generally sits in the 93-96 mph range and he’s got an above average curve ball as his primary secondary pitch with a slider being the third, also throws a change up.  He’s a big fella at 6’4” 225 who’s battled some shoulder issues at different times in his career.

He will receive a non-roster invitation to big league spring training.

From a fan’s view welcome Jon to the Phillies organization.
