As announced by the Adelaide Giants the Phillies have signed Australian LHP Lachlan Wells to a minor league contract. He’s had an outstanding season for Adelaide posting a 0.73 ERA in seven starts (37 IP) with a whopping 46 strikeouts and a minuscule 4 walks. His WHIP percentage is also outstanding at 0.84 and he’s averaging 16.2 K’s/9. This is his first season with Adelaide after pitching for the Sydney BlueSox initially when he was 16 years old beginning with the 2013 season thru the 2021 season - he took a year off before returning this year.
Wells is 26 years old and was originally signed by the Minnesota Twins in 2015, he reached the High A level with the Twins and has appeared in 49 minor league games (45 starts) posting a 3.02 ERA in 253 IP and a 1.11 WHIP. Lachlan had Tommy John surgery in 2019 and was released by Minnesota in 2022.
He features a fastball, curve and change up with the change up being his best pitch and out maker. From a fan’s view welcome to the Phillies Lachlan!
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
