European Baseball Championship :
Spain defeated Great Britain 11-2 in the 2023 European Baseball Championship game on 10/1. The 2023 European Baseball Championship started on September 24th and played thru October 1st in five cities across the Czech Republic.
Nick Ward had an outstanding tournament for Great Britain going 11 for 21 (.524) with ten runs scored, two doubles, four home runs and eight RBIs. His OBP was .615 and he posted a crazy 1.805 OPS 😳. Great tourney for the young man who has seemingly played baseball non-stop the past eighteen months beginning with the Frontier League in the summer of 2022 then a winter league season spent helping Adelaide win the Claxton Championship Shield in the Australian Baseball League to earning a minor league contract with the Phillies to playing for Great Britain in the 2023 World Baseball Classic then playing in 115 games for the Jersey Shore BlueClaws and Reading Fightins this summer in the Phillies organization and now just finishing the European Championship in the Czech Republic! That’s a lot of baseball, around 250 games! After a brief rest he’s slated to play for Adelaide once again this winter.
Arizona Fall League :
Opening day for the league yesterday. The Phillies contingent is part of the Scottsdale Scorpions. They played to a 10-10 tie in ten innings against the Peoria Javelinas.
Gabriel Rincones Jr started and played left field, he went two for four at the plate with a single, double and a walk, scored a run as well. None of the other eight Phillies on the roster played in the contest.
Dominican Winter League :
League play begins on October 19th and rosters are now being formulated. Phillies LHP Taylor Lehman has signed on to pitch for the defending league champions Tigres del Licey this coming season. Taylor pitched in 50 games this past season with Reading and Lehigh Valley and posted a 3.81 ERA in 52 innings pitched. Two former Phillies pitchers are also on the Tigres pre-season roster, Adonis Medina and Ulises Joaquin. Former Phillies minor leaguers Ali Castillo (INF) and Logan Moore (Catcher) have also signed contracts to play in the league, Moore with the Toros del Este and Castillo with the Leones del Esgido. Phillies minor league pitcher Jhordany Mezquita is in training camp with Águilas Cibaeñas as is former Phillies hurler Ramon Rosso.
Yesterday at the Complex :
McKinley Moore threw a live bullpen session in “Stay Hot” camp. Practice was held on the BayCare Ballpark Stadium field. Yunior Marte and Connor Brogdon threw side sessions.
