Arizona Fall League :
Johan Rojas had another good game for the Surprise Saguaros last evening. He batted in the leadoff spot and went 2 for 5 with a double. The double was a hustle play that we’ve seen him do often in his brief career to date - it was a line drive single to center field that the opposing fielder was a bit lax on fielding ( assumed Johan would be satisfied with a single ). Rojas never broke stride and sprinted into second base safely 👀. Johan is now 5 for 13 ( .385 ) in the three games Surprise ( 2-1 ) has played. Three of his Phillies organization mates made their AFL debuts in the game. Carlos De La Cruz went 1 for 4 and played first base. LH Taylor Lehman pitched two scoreless innings ( 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K’s - 32 pitches - 21 strikes ) in relief and RH Brett Schulze posted a save going 1 1/3 innings ( 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 2 K’s - 26 pitches - 13 strikes ).
Jhailyn Ortiz played in the Saguaros second game of the season the day before in right field - walked twice in four plate appearances and scored a run. RHP Cristian Hernandez hasn’t made a game appearance yet.
Under 23 World Cup :
1B Rixon Wingrove who played this past season for the Jersey Shore BlueClaws and OF/C Chris Burke ( Clearwater ) have been named to the Team Australia under 23 World Cup Team. They will join their Australian mates in action in Taiwan - the ten daytournament begins October 13th.
Another Phillies minor leaguer playing in the Under 23 World Cup tournament is Jersey Shore LHP Erubiel Armenta ( Mexico ). There are likely more as rosters get announced for the 12 team tournament ( TPE, COL, GER, JPN, RSA, VEN, AUS, CUB, MEX, NED, PUR, KOR ).
