This Phillies off-season I will continue the series  “Annual Phillies Minor League Player Notes” with profiles presented in groupings by defensive positions for the players who were still part of the minor league player development program at season’s end. The notes will reflect statistics, my thoughts on each player and input from them and others as I have it. They are presented in order by position and then alphabet in groupings of players per article. Here’s part one of the catchers highlighting the following :

Lou Albrecht

Josh Breaux

Luis Caicuto

Luke Davis

Jordan Dissin

Yhoan Escolona

Lou Albrecht - 24 years old (25 on 11/7/26) - signed as un-drafted free agent 7/21/23 - Central Arizona Junior College

2025 Stats :  RH hitter - served as the third catcher at multiple locations during the year - began the year with Clearwater, transferred to Lehigh Valley on 4/17 - placed on the IL with a hamate bone fracture on his left hand in mid April - rehab assignment with the FCL Phillies on 6/26 - 5 games - 10 AB’s - 1 hit and 1 walk. Assigned to Reading on 7/18 - appeared in four games - 6 AB’s.  Finished the season with Reading.

2025 Notes :  Lou is one of the most respectful and energetic young men in the organization, truly a team player. Has not seen a lot of game action - played for the Adelaide Giants in the 2024/2025 winter off season - .263/.333/.355 slash line in 84 PA’s with 4 doubles, a home run and 8 RBIs. He’s from Benton, Washington and graduated from Kentridge High School. He played two seasons at Washington State University before transferring to Central Arizona - was slated to transfer to the University of Washington but signed with the Phillies instead.

Josh Breaux - 28 years old (29 on 10/7/26) - signed as a free agent 6/30/24 - RH hitter

2025 Stats :  RH hitter - split time between Reading and Lehigh Valley - played in 14 games at Reading - 43 AB’s - .209/.277/.372 slash line - played in 37 games at Lehigh Valley - 115 AB’s - .226/.318/.330 slash line with 2 home runs and 12 RBIs.

2025 Notes :  most minor league teams will carry three catchers with the third receiver spending the majority of the time on the development list (able to practice with the team but ineligible for games). They serve as injury insurance for the club in case the two other catchers are disabled. That was primarily Josh’s role this summer with Lehigh Valley. He was drafted by the Yankees in the second round of the 2018 draft from McLennan Community College in Texas and is from Tomball, Texas where he graduated from Tomball High School. Was released by the Yankees on 6/29/24 and signed with the Phillies the next day. He has some pop (76 career HR’s in the minors) and is a decent defender.  Is slated to become a minor league free agent this off-season.

Luis Caicuto - 22 years old (23 on 3/5/26)  - acquired in minor league rule 5 draft - 12/6/23 - RH hitter

2025 Stats :  RH hitter - an injury setback season for Luis as he battled hamstring issues. Played in 27 games with Jersey Shore making 89 plate appearances with a .299/.372/.338 slash line and .710 OPS - played in one game with Reading and two with Clearwater on rehab assignment to end the season - was on the IL from 7/11 till the end of the year. Had a very good month of July - .333/.400/.389 in 18 AB’s - played in 16 games as a catcher during the season and four at first base.

2025 Notes :  Luis was originally signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks on 7/2/19 from Lecheria, Venezuela. He’s a spark plug with good defensive skills and loves the game of baseball. In July he told me “It’s the sport I love and enjoy it from the beginning of the day until it ends, sharing with my teammates, learning new things every day is the most fun of all this.” Every occasion I’ve had to speak with him he’s always been upbeat. Injuries and circumstances have hindered his chances to play but when he’s been able to get some consistent playing time he has performed well. He’s a young man who has the leadership qualities required to play the catching position. Should compete for playing time at an affiliate once again this spring.

Luke Davis - 22 years old (23 on 1/9/26) - signed un-drafted free agent - 7/23/24 - Long Beach CC, California

2025 Stats :  Switch hitter - broke spring camp with Jersey Shore - played in 30 games - 113 plate appearances - .143/.364/.204 slash line with 33 walks. Transferred to the FCL Phillies on 6/17 - 12 games - 42 plate appearances - .267/.476/.533 slash line with 12 walks. Transferred to Clearwater on 7/22 - 30 games - 113 plate appearances - .195/.381/.280 slash line with 25 walks. His 70 total walks were the fifth highest total in the organization. Caught in 26 games, played first base in 34.

2025 Notes :  he’s from Cypress, California and graduated from Cypress High School. He attended Santa Ana College, Orange Coast College and Long Beach City College before signing with the Phillies. Is a switch hitter with some pop (5 home runs - 4 left handed) who is a very patient hitter, works the count and gets walked a lot. Is participating in Fall High Performance Camp - commands a presence on the field, good leadership skills.

Jordan Dissin - 23 years old (24 on 5/29/26) - drafted in 12th round of the 2022 draft from Saddleback JC, CA

2025 Stats :  RH hitter - spent the majority of the season with Jersey Shore - 48 games - 178 plate appearances - .170/.303/.211 slash line with 6 doubles, 13 RBIs and 27 walks. Played in ten games with Reading - 37 plate appearances - .235/.297/.235 slash line. Spent time on the IL during the season - missed a couple weeks in May.

2025 Notes :  he’s from Malvern, PA and graduated from Malvern Prep HS. Originally attended the University of Richmond before transferring to Saddleback after one season. He’s a strong defensive catcher with a very good throwing arm and technique, quick pop times. Has pop, works counts as a hitter, will take his walks - career .340 OBP - swing can get long like many hitters with power - plays with good energy and is well respected. Hopefully has a full healthy season in 2026.

Yhoan Escolona  - 20 years old (20 on 11/4/26) - signed international free agent - 1/15/23 - Barquisimeto, Venezuela

2025 Stats :  RH hitter - played in four games with the FCL Phillies - .143/.294/.214 slash line in 17 plate appearances and in two games with Clearwater - one for seven with a single. Spent the majority of the year on the Development List as a reserve catcher - with Lehigh Valley from 5/13 to 6/9, Clearwater from 6/10 till 7/28 and then back with LHV from 7/29 till season end.

2025 Notes :  played mostly third base in extended spring training with the FCL squad before spending the balance of the year as a reserve. Big fella at 6’2” - when I watched him in XST play he swung the bat well. Player two seasons in the Dominican Summer League before coming stateside.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
