Arizona Fall League :
The season concluded last evening with a come from behind 7-6 eleven inning victory in the championship game for the Surprise Saguaros ( Phillies,Astros, Royals, Pirates & Rangers ) over the Glendale Desert Dogs ( Brewers,Dodgers, White Sox, Twins, Reds). Carlos De La Cruz had two hits in the game and made a great running catch in center field to end the seventh inning. RHP Francisco Morales struck out five batters in 1 2/3 innings of work allowing a hit and two walks - he pitched a perfect sixth inning striking out the side then ran into a bit of trouble in the seventh when the bases were loaded on two walks and a single however the Rangers Grant Wolfram relieved him - De La Cruz made his great running catch ranging far to his left and stretching out to rob what would have been a bases clearing knock and instead end the inning!
The game was the longest in league post season history and brings the championship trophy to the Surprise franchise - the last time they won it was in 2013.
Australian Baseball League :
League play opened this week and the largest Phillies contingent is playing for the Adelaide Giants. Anthony Quirion had a strong game today with two knocks - he’s 4 for 12 in the early going. West Chester University and Unionville High School graduate Nick Ward who hails from Kennett Square, PA went 4 for 5 out of the lead off spot in today’s action and is 6 for 14 to begin the season - the infielder has also drawn three walks and stolen two bases in four games played to date.
Puerto Rico Winter League :
Gustavo Sosa is catching for the Indios de Mayaguez ball club. He’s caught in two of the seven games the team has played thus far.
Domincan Winter League :
Infielder Jonathan Guzman ( now a minor league free agent ) is 10 for 36 -.294 to start the season for Leones del Escogido.
Venezuelan Winter League :
RHP Guissepe Velasquez ( 19 years old ) has pitched 5 scoreless innings in his first 4 appearances for Aguilas del Zulia. Former Phillies RHP Edubray Ramos has pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings in 8 appearances ( 7 K’s, 1 BB, 7 hits allowed ) for Tiburones de La Guaira.
Mexican Winter League :
LHP Erubiel Armenta has pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings in 5 appearances with 9 K’s and 2 walks for Caneros de Los Mochis.
Jhailyn Ortiz lays out in celebration in front of the flag of the Saguaros AFL championship 🤓. Taylor Lehman, Cristian Hernandez, Brett Schulze, Francisco Morales, Carlos De La Cruz, Johan Rojas and hitting coach Jake Elmore were the other Phillies on the team.
