11/19/25 : Phillies sign Infielder Liover Peguero to minor league contract

Twenty four year old free agent infielder Liover Peguero has signed a minor league contract for the 2026 season with the Phillies. He played last season for AAA level Indianapolis in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization and posted a .247/.313/.375 slash line with a .688 OPS in 75 games (303 plate appearances) with 14 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs, 40 RBIs, 27 walks, 59 strikeouts and 8 stolen bases. He’s appeared in 96 major league games with Pittsburgh from 2022 to 2025 including 33 this past summer (he hit 4 home runs for the Pirates) and has a career .227/.278/.368 slash line in 315 major league plate appearances with 6 doubles, 11 home runs, 36 RBIs, 18 walks, 97 strikeouts and 10 stolen bases.
Peguero elected free agency on 11/6 after being out-righted by the Pirates to AAA on 11/6.
He played in 30 games at shortstop last season for Indianapolis, 23 at third base, 9 at second base, 5 at first base and 8 in center field. Was originally signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks as an international free agent from Higuey, Dominican Republic on 7/2/17 and was traded to the Pirates on 1/27/20 in a deal where Starling Marte was acquired by Arizona.
Peguero is known for having outstanding speed and as a strong defender. He’s shown power but also has been inconsistent, is an aggressive hitter and has struggled with off-speed deliveries. Provides infield depth at the AAA level - has played there each of the past three seasons producing 21 home runs and 124 RBIs in 210 games played. Over his minor league career has a .266/.325/.416 slash line and .741 OPS with 118 doubles, 22 triples, 62 home runs, 320 RBIs, 201 walks, 555 strikeouts and 117 stolen bases in 2,554 plate appearances.
He’s on the roster of the Tigres del Licey in the Dominican Winter League and has played in nine games thus far.
