Australian Baseball League :
The league is in it’s third round ( weekly series ) of play this week. There are generally four games per team each week with regular season play schedule till January 22nd.
So far this week :
Adelaide’s Nick Ward ( West Chester University and Unionville HS graduate ) has hit two home runs in two games played against Melbourne. The lead off hitter drove in five runs with his two taters and is hitting .405 with a .511 OBP ( 3 doubles, 2 triples and 3 home runs ) in 10 games played. Arturo DeFreitas has 3 hits in his last 6 AB’s for the Adelaide Giants.
RHP Kyle Glogoski made his 2022 season debut pitching 3 scoreless innings for the Auckland Tuatara ( 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K - 39 pitches - 23 strikes ) - Kyle pitched for Jersey Shore last summer.
Venezuelan Winter League :
Catcher Rafael Marchan went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs in his 2022 season debut for Tiburnos de La Guaira- he went 3 for 4 in his second game on 11/24 with a walk. RHP Jonathan Petit threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings ( 1 H, 3 K’s ) for Tiburnos on 11/23, he’s posted a 2.92 ERA in 6 appearances ( 12 1/3 IP ) with 9 K’s and 3 BB - 12 hits allowed - the 21 year old pitched in the Florida Complex League for the Phillies last summer. They are teammates with Ronald Acuna Jr on the club.
Puerto Rico Winter League :
RHP Yacksel Rios ( former Phillie - now a free agent ) has yet to yield a run in 9 appearances ( 8 1/3 IP ) for Criollos de Caguas - he’s struck out 11 batters and walked just one - 6 hits against. The 29 year old was one of my first minor league acquaintances to make it to the major leagues. He was in the White Sox system last year.
Mexican Winter League :
LHP Erubiel Armenta threw a scoreless inning in relief for Caneros de Los Mochis on 11/22. For the season he’s posted a 1.04 ERA in 9 appearances ( 8 2/3 IP ) with 13 K’s, 4 BB and 3 hits allowed. The 22 year old pitched for High A Jersey Shore this past summer.
Colombian Winter League :
RHP Victor Vargas is pitching for Caimanes de Barranquilla
