11/3/2020 : Apparent Minor League Changes
No announcements have been made yet but some changes have started to “leak” out in regards to the 2021 minor league structure and how it effects the Phillies.
The proposed changes ...
*** The Florida State League will change competition level from “Advanced A” to Low A. The league will also become a 10 team league instead of 12 teams.
*** The Phillies affiliate and newly named Jersey Blue Claws will become an Advanced A team and will move to a newly formed Mid-Atlantic League.
*** The South Atlantic League will stay as a Low A league and the California League will move to a Low A designation.
*** The Midwest League and the Northwest League will move to the Advanced A designation and the Carolina League will remain as an Advanced A League.
***Two current AAA teams will move to the AA level - the San Antonio Missions and the
Wichita Surge. The Fresno Grizzlies will move from AAA to Low A.
***The current independent league St Paul Saints along with the Sugarland Skeeters and the Jacksonville Shrimp will move up to the AAA level.
***St Paul would become the AAA affiliate of the Twins. The Pensacola Blue Wahoos will become the AA affiliate of the Marlins with Jacksonville being their AAA affiliate.
By the way Chase Utley has been named as a member of the 2020 Florida State League Hall of Fame class ... there usually is a banquet to celebrate the inductees but isn’t likely to happen this year due to Covid. Congrats to Chase!
Just some tidbits is all ... will keep ya posted on what I read and hear going forward.
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
Happy Voting Day !!!
