The Phillies are part of the Scottsdale team this season.
11/3/23 : Scottsdale 4 (14-13) Glendale 2 (12-15)
Catcher Caleb Ricketts went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, he also scored a run. Third baseman Matt Kroon was 1 for 3 with a single, run scored and sacrifice fly RBI. Scottsdale enters the all-star break in second place in the six team league.
Four Phillies players were selected to play in Sunday’s league all-star game. Outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr, infielder Oliver Dunn and pitchers Christian McGowan and Andrew Baker. The National League team will be managed by the Phillies Marty Malloy and the strength coach will be Joseph Miranda.
Oliver Dunn has a .362/.470/.652 slash line in 83 plate appearances and an OPS of 1.122, he’s hit 6 doubles, 4 triples, 2 home runs and has 10 RBIs. Oliver has stolen 12 bases without being caught. He’s tied for 5th in the league in runs scored (17), is 6th in hits (25), tied for 3rd in doubles, 2nd in triples, tied for 7th in walks, tied for 5th in stolen bases, 4th in batting average and OBP and 3rd in slugging percentage and OPS. 👀👏
Gabriel Rincones Jr is hitting .295 thru 78 AB’s with 5 doubles, a triple, 2 home runs and 13 RBIs - he’s stolen 14 bases and has 16 walks - an OBP of .427. He is second in the league in runs scored (20), tied for 5th in walks, tied for 3rd in stolen bases and 12th in OBP. He will also participate in today’s home run derby. 👍👏
RHP Christian McGowan will not participate in the game as he’s reached his pre-determined innings limit for the season coming back from TJ surgery. Christian had a strong AFL campaign starting four games (17 IP) posting a 3.71 ERA with 12 strikeouts and a 1.65 WHIP. Adding the AFL numbers to his playing time this season (made first appearance 7/22/23) with the FCL Phillies, Clearwater Threshers, Jersey Shore BlueClaws and Lehigh Valley IronPigs he made 13 starts accumulating 42.2 IP with an overall 3.80 ERA, 40 strikeouts, 17 walks and a 1.45 WHIP. Good numbers for his first game action since early in the 2022 season. 💪👏
RHP Andrew Baker has appeared in seven AFL games and has a 0.00 ERA with 13 strikeouts and 6 walks in 7 IP. He’s posted a 1.143 WHIP and opposing hitters have a minuscule .087 batting average against him. When he commands the zone he dominates. 🔥👏
LHP Jordi Martinez was not selected for the all-star game however has very strong numbers - in seven appearances (9.2 IP) he’s posted a 0.93 ERA with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks, a 0.72 WHIP and a .147 BAA. Jordi has also thrown a significant amount of innings this season (67) when adding his season totals with Jersey Shore and Reading appearing in a total of 54 games in his first season as a full time reliever. Very strong year for the young man who will always take the baseball - a cumulative 3.35 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. ⚾️👏
Dominican Winter League :
11/3/23 : former Phillies RHP Ramon Rosso went 4.1 innings in relief for Aguilas Cibaeñas - two runs - one earned, three hits and three strikeouts in their 10-1 loss to Gigantes del Cibao.
Venezuelan Winter League :
11/3/23 : Catcher Rafael Marchan went 2 for 3 for Tigres de Aragua in their 2-0 loss to Caribes de Anzoategui. Erick Brito got his first official AB of the season for Leones del Caracas and singled, former Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera was 2 for 4 with two runs scored in the game for Cardenales de Lara. The Cardinals won the game 7-0. Center fielder Simon Muzziotti went 1 for 2 with 2 walks for Aguilas del Zulia in their 6-3 loss to Bravos de Margarita.
Mexican Winter League :
11/3/23 : Esteban Quiroz went 1 for 3 with a double for Algodoneros de Guasave in their 7-4 win over Sultanes de Monterrey. Former Phillies RHP Trey Cobb pitched a perfect inning in relief for Sultanes de Monterrey.
Puerto Rico Winter League :
11/3/23 : One game was played - Carolina defeated Mayaguez 4-2 - Boxscore was incomplete so I’m not sure if any Phillies players participated. The league has a new website, clunky to navigate.
Australian Baseball League :
League play begins November 17th.
