Australian Baseball League :
Adelaide played Canberra in this past week’s play. Their roster has seven current Phillies minor leaguers, three former Phillies and a player who grew up and lives in the Philadelphia area. They are managed by Chris “Tank” Adamson who also manages in the Phillies Player Development Department, last season with the FCL Phillies.
The Giants swept their four game series and have now won 12 games in a row - they lead the Southwest Division of the league with a 15-5 record 💪👏.
Game One : Adelaide 5 Canberra 2
LHP Jordan Fowler started and pitched four scoreless innings ( 2 H, 0 BB, 4 K’s - 66 pitches - 42 strikes ) - his season ERA is now a minuscule 0.63 in five appearances ( 14 1/3 IP ) with 16 K’s and 6 walks. West Chester University graduate Nick Ward had two hits including a double. He scored two runs.
Game Two : Adelaide 10 Canberra 5
RHP Starlyn Castillo threw five shutout innings ( 4 H, 1 BB, 8 K’s - 75 pitches - 47 strikes ) - coupled with his start last week against Sydney ( 5 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 3 K’s - 68 pitches - 41 strikes ) he’s thrown ten consecutive scoreless frames - Starlyn has even picked up a new nickname during his time in Australia - El Koala 🔥
Nick Ward continued his hot hitting going 2 for 5 ( double & home run ) - scored twice and had two RBIs. Catcher Anthony Quirion had three hits ( including a triple ) with two RBIs. Rixon Wingrove hit two doubles and Jared Carr doubled. Former Phillies minor leaguer Austin Ross pitched two scoreless innings of relief.
Game Three : Adelaide 11 Canberra 2
Lead off hitter Nick Ward went 2 for 5 and scored a run. Jared Carr had two hits including a double. Anthony Quirion and Rixon Wingrove each hit doubles.
Game Four : Adelaide 4 Canberra 3
Nick Ward had two more hits including a ninth inning home run that tied the game ( 6th of the season ) and drove in two runs. Shortstop Luis Aviles Jr won the game with a walk off home run - he also had two hits. Ward and Aviles have formed a formidable top of the order combination for the Giants. They are both free agents and eligible to sign with any major league club for a minor league roster spot.
By the numbers :
Nick Ward is now hitting .385 for the season ( 30 for 78 ) and has a .473 OBP with a .756 slugging percentage - 1.229 OPS. The Kennett Square, PA native has hit 7 doubles, 2 triples and 6 home runs - driven in 13 runs and walked 11 times from the lead off spot in the batting order.
Ward currently leads the entire league in hits, doubles, batting average, total bases, slugging percentage and OPS - He’s second in home runs. Daaaaang 😳👏 - somebody needs to sign this young man 👀.
Anthony Quirion is hitting .371 ( 26 for 70 ) with a .436 OBP - he’s got 5 doubles, a triple and 5 home runs - 19 RBIs - a .686 slugging percentage and a 1.122 OPS

Outfielder Johan Rojas has been added to the Tigres del Licey roster.
Venezuelan Winter League :
Catcher Rafael Marchan went 4 for 5 for Tiburones de La Guaira with a walk, scored two runs and knocked in another in their 14 to 2 win on 12/4 against Cardenales de Lara. Marchan had another hit on 12/5 and two RBIs vs Leones del Caracas. Rafael had two hits on 12/6 against the Bravos de Margarita. He’s hitting a cool .517 ( 15 for 29 ) on the season with a .622 OBP.
RHP Jonathan Petit pitched three innings for Tiburones de La Guaira on 12/7 - yielded no earned runs - 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K - has a 1.77 ERA in 9 games on the season ( 20 1/3 IP ).
Puerto Rico Winter League :
Former Phillie RHP Yacksel Rios threw two scoreless innings for Criollos de Caguas on 12/4 to pick up his third win of the season - he threw another scoreless frame on 12/9 - he’s yet to allow a run in 16 2/3 IP ( 16 appearances ) and has 24 K’s against just 3 walks.
RHP Carlos Francisco pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for Indios de Mayaguez on 12/8 allowing just a walk and posted his third hold of the season.
Mexican Winter League :
LHP Erubiel Armenta pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief on 12/7 for Caneros de Los Mochis - for the season he’s posted a 0.87 ERA in 12 games ( 10 1/3 IP ) - 15 K’s & 7 BB.
Former Phillie LHP Jeff Singer threw a scoreless inning in relief for Sultanes de Monterrey on 12/6. He recorded his 6th hold of the season with another inning of work the following day vs Algodoneros de Guasave.
