Notes on Phillies and former Phillies participating in winter leagues.
Venezuela Winter League :
12/14/24 action : right fielder Leandro Pineda went 2 for 4 (singles) with an RBI for Navegantes del Magallanes in a 5-4 loss to Cardenales de Lara. Former Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera went 2 for 5 with two runs scored for Tigres de Aragua in a 10-7 win over Tiburones de La Guaira. Former Phillies minor league RHP Mario Sanchez pitched six scoreless frames (3 H, 1 BB, 7 K’s) for Aguilas del Zulia in a 2-0 victory against Leones del Caracas. Former Phillies minor league infielder Ali Castillo was 2 for 2 (single & triple) in the game for the Aguilas.
Australian Winter League :
The Phillies contingent plays for the Adelaide Giants.
12/14/24 action : LHP Matt Osterberg pitched 4.1 innings (1 R, 3 H, 3 BB, 3 K’s - 76 pitches - 48 strikes) and RHP Estibenzon Jimenez retired both batters he faced (12 pitches - 8 strikes) for Adelaide in a 1-0 loss to Melbourne (9-9). Adelaide was held to three singles in the contest (Nikau Pouaka-Grego, former Phillies minor leaguers Nick Ward & Rixon Wingrove). Former Phillies minor league infielder Robbie Glendinning was 1 for 2 with a double and two walks for Melbourne. After five weeks of play the league has reached the halfway point of the ‘24/25 season - Adelaide sits tied in second place with Canberra at 11-9 trailing first place Sydney (13-6). Former Phillies minor league RHP Kyle Glogoski retired all four batters he faced for Sydney to close out a 6-0 win against Brisbane.
Dominican Winter League :
12/14/24 action : former Phillies RHP Adonis Medina pitched 2.2 scoreless innings (1 H, 1 K) for Tigres del Licey in a 3-1 loss to Estrellas Orientales.
Puerto Rico Winter League :
12/14/24 action : RHP Carlos Francisco threw a scoreless inning (1 BB, 1 K) for Indios de Mayaguez in a 2-0 win over Gigantes de Carolina. Former Phillies minor league infielder Vimael Machin went 2 for 3 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs for Criollos de Caguas in a 9-0 win against Senadores de San Juan.
Colombia Winter League :
12/14/24 action : Felix Reyes (1B) went 1 for 4 (single) for Leones de Barranquilla in a 5-3 loss to Caimanes de Barranquilla. Left fielder Isaias Dipre was 0 for 4 in the lead off spot in the order for the Leones. Former Phillies minor league LHP Jhordany Mezquita pitched three scoreless innings (0 H, 1 BB) for Caimanes - Jhordany is 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in three appearances (all starts - 13.1 IP) for Caimanes which leads the league with a dominant 23-4 record.
Mexican Pacific Winter League :
12/14/24 action : recent Phillies minor league signee Luis Verdugo (3B) went 1 for 4 (single) for Tomateros de Culiacán in a 10-1 loss to Yaquis de Obregón.
Nicaragua Winter League :
12/14/24 action : former Phillies minor league outfielder Jiandido Tromp went 1 for 4 with a single, walk, run scored and RBI for Leones de Leon in a 11-5 loss to Tren del Norte.
Panama Winter League :
12/14/24 action : Eduardo Tait went 1 for 2 with a single and two walks for Águilas Metropolitanas in a 4-0 loss to Los Nacionales. Eduardo played first base in the contest - he is 19 for 41 on the season and leads the league with a .463 batting average.
