The Phillies have signed 28 year old catcher Max McDowell to a minor league contract. He was the Brewers 13th round draft selection in the 2015 draft from the University of Connecticut. He was signed as a free agent by the Yankees in June of 2020. McDowell played in 66 games for AAA Scranton Wilkes-Barre last season. In 487 career minor league games he’s posted a .226 batting average and .335 OBP in 1,815 plate appearances.
Known primarily for his receiving skills which includes throwing out 39 % of base stealers for his career he will compete for a minor league roster spot in spring training and is likely to be included as an NRI to major league spring camp - can’t ever have enough catchers in camp for all the bullpen sessions needed.
From a fan’s view welcome to the Phillies Max!
