Notes on Phillies and former Phillies participating in winter leagues.
Dominican Winter League :
12/1/24 action : center fielder Johan Rojas was 2 for 5 (singles) with a run scored and stolen base (7th of season). He’s now hitting .306 (15 for 49) on the winter season with a .358 OBP in 12 games played. His team (Gigantes del Cibao) lost their contest 7-6 to Tigres del Licey. Three former Phillies pitched in the game - LH Joely Rodriguez threw a scoreless inning for the Gigantes while RH Edgar Garcia threw two scoreless frames. LH Elniery Garcia (former Phillies minor leaguer) threw a scoreless frame with two strikeouts for the Tigres.
Mexican Winter League :
12/1/24 action : former Phillies minor league LHP JP Woodward threw another scoreless inning in relief for Venados de Mazatlán in a 6-2 win over
Yaquis de Obregón. The 26 year old current free agent has now appeared in 25 games (23.1 IP) and has a 3.08 ERA and has not allowed a run in his last ten appearances (10 IP) posting 14 K’s against just one walk and allowing only four hits - seems like some team should give him another shot at affiliate level ball - just sayin🤓.
Former Phillies minor league first baseman Joey Meneses was 3 for 5 (singles) for Tomateros de Culiacán in a 9-3 win over Charros de Jalisco. The now New York Met signee leads the league in hitting (.345 - 48 for 139) and slugging percentage (.612).
Venezuela Winter League :
12/1/24 action : former Phillies minor league outfielder Simon Muzziotti went 3 for 5 (two singles & HR) with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored for Aguilas del Zulia in a 9-4 loss to Tiburones de La Guaira.
Puerto Rico Winter League :
12/1/24 action : former Phillies minor league RHP Alexis Rivero threw a scoreless inning in relief for Leones de Ponce in a 10-0 loss to Criollos de Caguas.
Panama Winter League :
The four team league has begun play and catcher Eduardo Tait is on the roster of Aguilas Metropolitanas. They have played four games and are 2-2 - I am trying to track down box scores - work in progress 🤓.
