RHP MT (Michael Thomas) Morrissey, an un-drafted free agent who attended and pitched for the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2025 has signed a minor league contract with the Phillies.
Morrissey is twenty three years old and graduated from Portsmouth High School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. He initially attended Georgetown University after high school before transferring to Bryant and then on to NJIT. In his collegiate career he pitched in 59 games - 16 as a starter amassing 131 innings pitched with 122 strikeouts and 80 walks. This past summer he pitched for Trenton in the MLB Draft League and made 8 starts (45.2 IP - 3.94 ERA - 38 K’s, 17 walks).
He throws a fastball (91-95 mph - touches 96), splitter, slider and cutter. His fastball has been described as having good shape with positive release traits - one that can play at the pro level.
From a fan’s view welcome to the Phillies MT!
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
