Free agent Infielder Christian Cairo has signed a minor league contract with the Phillies for the 2026 season. The now 24 year old was drafted by the Cleveland Guardians in the 4th round of the 2019 draft from Calvary Christian HS in Clearwater, Florida. He is the son of former long time major leaguer Miguel Cairo who played in 18 major league seasons with nine different organizations and has also both coached and managed in the major leagues.

Christian Cairo played last season with Columbus (Guardians AAA affiliate) posting a .237/.338/.331 slash line with a .669 OPS - he hit 21 doubles, 3 triples and 2 home runs and stole 33 bases. In his minor league career he’s got a .225/.354/.318 slash line and .672 OPS in 1,806 plate appearances. He’s played every defensive position except pitcher and catcher in his career but has seen most of his time at second base, third base and shortstop. Christian elected free agency on 11/6/25.

One other note - Christian spent 2025 big league spring training with the Atlanta Braves after being selected in the 2024 Rule 5 draft but was returned to Cleveland by Atlanta prior to the start of the regular season. His age, versatility and speed made him one of the more sought after minor league free agents this offseason.

From a fan’s view welcome to the Phillies Christian !

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
