Free agent catcher Mark Kolozsvary has signed a minor league contract with the Phillies for the 2026 season. The now 30 year old was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 7th round of the 2017 draft from the University of Florida. He’s from Taveras, Florida and graduated from Taveras High School.
After initially playing in the Reds organization Kolozsvary was claimed off waivers by the Orioles on 10/14/22. He signed with the Minnesota Twins as a free agent on 6/20/23 and then with the Boston Red Sox on 12/21/23 with whom he played minor league ball till declaring free agency on 11/6/25. He’s appeared in 11 major league games (2022-2023) with the Reds and Orioles and has 20 major league at bats. The majority of his career has been in the minors - 382 games - .213/.323/.354 slash line in 1,401 plate appearances with 32 home runs and 140 RBIs. He also played in the Olympics for Team USA.
Last season was an injury riddled one for him as he made only 30 game appearances at the AA and AAA levels with 95 AB’s. He’s noted for his defense - game calling and a strong arm. Provides depth at the catcher position for the AAA level with potential as a fill in backup in the major leagues.
From a fan’s view welcome to the Phillies Mark!
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
