The Phillies have claimed 25 year old RHP Ian Hamilton off waivers from the Seattle Mariners. He was the 11th round pick in the 2016 draft of the Chicago White Sox and was once considered as potentially being their future closer. Hamilton appeared in 14 major league games with the 2018 and 2020 White Sox before being claimed on waivers by Seattle in September of this year.
He’s a power pitcher that throws his fastball around 98-99 and often hits triple digits. When he’s on he locates it at the bottom of the zone, and pairs that with a power slider. The slider ranges in the 90-91 zone, he has a third pitch - a changeup.
“Hamilton jammed his shoulder in a car accident during 2019 spring training bracing against the steering wheel. It threw the fireballer off of his game and he’s subsequently struggled with command since the setback.
Prior to that Hamilton had a huge 2018 season split between Double-A and Triple-A. In 43 appearances (51.2 innings), Hamilton posted a 1.74 ERA. He allowed just two home runs on the season, struck out 62 batters and walked just 16.” - South Side Sox
A power arm for the bullpen than if healthy could be a find ... certainly worth the risk 👍
