2/12/22 : Phillies sign Infielder Yairo Munoz

The team has announced the signing of 27 year old infielder Yairo Munoz to a minor league contract. Munez has played in 213 major league games from 2018 to 2021 with the St Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox. Last season he played primarily with Worcester at the AAA level in the Red Sox organization and posted a .308 batting average in 88 games ( 351 AB’s ) with 8 home runs and 36 RBIs.

He’s played all four infield and outfield positions in his ten year career with the majority of time at shortstop and second base. His brother Jairo was in the Phillies organization as a RHP during the 2015 and 2016 seasons and pitched at Lakewood and Clearwater.

Yairo may be a non roster invite to big league spring training and afforded an opportunity to make the club as a utility reserve. He’s listed as a third baseman which is a position that’s open for triple A Lehigh Valley.
