2/17/24 : Phillies to sign RHP Ricardo Pinto

Updated: Feb 18

Thirty year old RHP Ricardo Pinto reportedly has signed a minor league contract with the Phillies.  He pitched in 25 major league games for the Phillies in 2017 (29.2 IP) and was originally signed by the team on 12/28/11 as an international free agent from Guacara Carabobo, Venezuela.   Ricardo pitched in the Phillies minor league system from 2012 to 2017 - he was named the Paul Owens Award winner in 2015 when he posted a 15-4 record with a 2.97 ERA in 24 starts (145.1 IP) with a 1.14 WHIP at A levels Lakewood and Clearwater.

The Phillies traded him to the White Sox in 2018 and since then he’s pitched in the minor leagues for the White Sox, Rays, Giants and Tigers organizations.  He made two major league appearances for the Rays in 2019.  Last season he pitched in the Mexican League.  Ricardo had great recent success in the Venezuelan Winter League where he pitched for the league champions Tiburones de La Guaira.  He was then named the Caribbean Series MVP for leading Venezuela to the series championship.  He pitched 5.2 scoreless innings (4 H, 1 BB, 6 K’s) in the championship game and made two starts in the series pitching 10.2 innings allowing just one run (0.84 ERA) posting 14 strikeouts, 3 walks and 10 hits allowed.   He has developed a very good split finger change up that was most effective during the winter league season.  Ricardo has reportedly received a non-roster invitation to major league spring training.

From a fan’s view welcome back to the organization Ricardo!

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
