Minor League Mini Camp :


Bullpens :


Sam Aldegheri, Jean Cabrera, Robinson Pina, Gunner Mayer, Jake Eddington and George Klassen each threw side bullpen sessions.


Live BP :


Chuck King, Cristian Hernandez, Matt Osterberg, David Parkinson, Alex Rao and Zach Haake each threw live BP sessions on either Ashburn or Roberts fields.


Grapefruit League Game One :


Phillies 14 Blue Jays 13

Dunedin, Florida


With a strong wind blowing out it was a hitter’s day as 27 runs were scored and 29 hits were recorded  - the Phillies scored 4 runs in the third inning, 10 runs in the fifth.  The Blue Jays scored 3 runs in the first, 4 runs in the third ,2 runs in the fifth, 3 runs in the sixth and 1 in the ninth.


At the Plate :


Johan Rojas had two hits in four ABs (infield single & triple) with three RBIs - his triple was hit off the center field wall - was a bad route by the Jays center fielder Daulton Varsho but hey Johan still smoked it.  Kody Clemens was 2 for 2 (single & double), Weston Wilson went 2 for 3 (double & HR) with four RBIs, Scott Kingery was 2 for 3 (single & HR) and Aramis Garcia was 2 for 3 (single & double).  Whit Merrifield doubled and Matt Kroon homered (three run shot).


Erick Brito got the honor of being the first minor league game day call up to garner a plate appearance.  Bryce Ball was the first minor league call up to get a hit, he singled.  Kendall Simmons drew the first walk for minor league call-ups, he later singled.


Pitching Notes :


Tough day to be a hurler with the strong winds blowing out - basically anything up in the wind was gonna fly a ways.


Kolby Allard started and went two frames - he threw 34 pitches (FB - 89-91 mph, cutter- 81-86 mph and curve - 72-75 mph).  Allard has to hit spots - he gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 2 hits and 2 walks - 3 strikeouts.


Nick Nelson - 2 innings - 4 runs on 5 hits, one walk and one strikeout - 39 pitches (four seamer- 92 to 93 mph, changeup - 85 to 87 mph, slider - 83 to 86 mph, 8 sinker - 91 to 93 mph and curve - 79-80 mph).


Dylan Covey went one inning - 18 pitches - cutter - 86 to 91 mph, sinker - 93 to 94 mph, slider - 85-86 mph, curve - 82 to 83 mph - 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits,no walks,one strikeout.


Michael Mercado - 2/3 of an inning - 25 pitches - four seamer - 95 to 97 mph, curve- 83 to 84 mph, cutter - 88 to 90 mph - 3 runs on 3 hits with one strikeout and one walk.  Left fielder Simon Muzziotti lost a fly ball in the high impossible sky for one of the hits.


Carlos Francisco (first minor league call up to pitch in 2024 ST) -  1/3 of an inning - faced two batters, one walk - 6 pitches - sinker - 93 mph, changeup - 88 mph


Andrew Bellatti - perfect inning - three groundouts - 9 pitches - four seamer - 94 to 94 mph, slider - 83 to 84 mph, changeup - 88 mph.


Jose Ruiz - one inning, no runs, two walks, one strikeout - 29 pitches - sinker - 93 to 96 mph, four seamer - 95 to 97 mph, slider - 85 to 86 mph, cutter - 86 to 88 mph


Tyler McKay - one inning - one unearned run, one hit, one strikeout - 12 pitches - sinker - 92-93 mph, slider - 82-84 mph and changeup -86-87 mph


Minor League Camp Call-Ups for the game :


Pitchers : Andrew Baker, Carlos Francisco, Tristan Garnett & Cam Wynne

Catcher : Arturo De Freitas

Infielders : Bryce Ball, Erick Brito, Trevor Schwecke, Kendall Simmons

Outfielders : Bryson Ware and Ethan Wilson


Simmons subbed in at 3B, Ball at 1B, Schwecke at SS and Brito at 2B.


Grapefruit League record is now 1-0
