Minor League Mini Camp : Day Off
Grapefruit League Game Two :
Phillies 4 Yankees 0
BayCare Ballpark, Clearwater, Florida
A crowd of 10,212 (sellout) in attendance for the Grapefruit League home opener. What was even more interesting was that many folks were there early (gates opened at 11:05 AM) and stayed for the entire game - that’s a rarity in spring training as usually a large amount leaves after the fifth inning or so when the big league regulars are taken out of the contest. It’s normally my practice to stay and watch the entire game as I enjoy seeing the minor league call ups or NRI’s get into late inning action. Today a whole lot of people stayed there till the end as well.
The Phillies pitchers held what was basically a minor league lineup sent over by the Yankees (they had a spilt squad - also had a group at home against the Blue Jays) to no hits till the 8th inning when they got their only hit of the game, a single to right field.
In the bottom of the second inning Weston Wilson singled against Marcus Stroman. Darick Hall then worked a great plate appearance against Stroman battling from behind in the count to coax a walk. Cristian Pache singled to left field to score Wilson. Jake Cave flew out to deep center allowing Hall to tag and move to third base. Garrett Stubbs singled to score a run, Trea Turner reached on an error by the Yankees shortstop to score a third run.
Cristian Pache homered in the fourth inning to left field to score the game’s final run.
At the Plate :
Cristian Pache went 2 for 2 (single & HR) with two runs scored and two RBIs. The Phillies were held to six hits total.

Defensive Gems :
1B Darick Hall made a diving stop on a sharp hit grounder in the first inning and then flipped to Aaron Nola covering first to record the out. Later in the game 1B Bryce Ball came off the bag to catch an errant throw and tag the runner out at first before he reached the bag and later made a nifty pick up on a grounder towards second base and threw to second to get a runner out there on a force to end the inning.
