Workouts continued for camp participants. While the emphasis is on strength training and conditioning the winter version of HP Camp has more baseball practice activities that the Fall version.
HP Camp workouts were held on the complex training fields. Position players fielding drills were conducted on Ashburn field while pitchers did their fielding drills on Carlton field. BP took place on Roberts Field.
Eighteen pitchers threw side bullpen sessions today on the side mounds by Ashburn Field - Mavis Graves, Wen-Hui Pan, Estibenzon Jimenez, Christian McGowan, Saul Teran, James Tallon, Cade Obermueller, Cody Bowker, Gabe Craig, Aaron Combs, Ryan Dromboski, Luke Gabrysh, Gage Wood, Brian Walters, Ryan Degges, Marty Gair, Alexander De Los Santos and Sean Youngerman.
I was at the complex today for the first time since last July - watched all of the minor league bullpens - Gabe Craig, Brian Walters, Sean Youngerman, James Tallon and Cade Obermueller all had standout sessions from my view - Craig was popping the mitt with impact and the couple sliders he broke off were flat out nasty. Tallon has a lanky lefty build and looks sneaky fast. Walters, Obermueuller and Youngerman all have what looks like dominant heat. Good stuff!
Some of the major league players and non-roster invites are at the Complex doing early work as well - today right handers Aaron Nola, Orion Kerkering, Alex McFarlane, Trevor Richards, Zach McCambley, Seth Johnson, Max Lazar, Zach Pop, Jonathan Bowlan, Tim Mayza and Jean Cabrera threw side bullpens on the mounds by the half field as did lefty Andrew Walling.
I watched Aaron Nola throw his side, same smooth mechanics but to me even slightly more simplified. Looked free and easy - it’s only February but looked like he’s on a mission.
