The Phillies must turn in their initial spring training ( ST ) roster by 4 PM on Friday. MLB has set the ST limit at 75 players however there are some players already working at the Complex on rehab assignments therefore I believe the Phillies ST allotment might either be reduced by the amount of rehab players there or they might have to leave the Complex once ST begins đ¤.
I have formulated a list of players whom I expect or know to have been granted non-roster invitations but am waiting for the Phillies to list them.
The Adelaide Giants let the cat out of the bag in a recent article on their page on two of the player invitations ... LHP Jonathan Hennigan and UTL Luke Williams have both returned to the States after playing in Australia. Both young men will be in 2021 big league camp as non roster invites. It will be Henniganâs first big league camp albeit he recorded the last out of 2020 spring training in an appearance as a game day call up against the Rays in Port Charlotte. Jonathan has put in the hard work to earn this yearâs invitation ... Iâve always been a believer he has big league stuff and expect that he will show very well this spring. He excelled in Australia allowing no runs in six appearances ( 8.2 IP) with 10 Kâs ...
Luke Williams will be in his second camp as a NRI ... his defensive versatility will make him a possible roster consideration as a bench reserve. Luke has played every defensive position except the battery spots in his minor league career. He left Australia on a hot streak and posted an overall batting average of .292 in 77 ABâs while there.
They will join previously announced minor league free agent signees C Christian Bethancourt, RHP Hector Rondon, RHP Neftali Feliz, RHP Micheal Ynoa, RHP Bryan Mitchell, RHP Ivan Nova, RHP David Paulino and INF Ronald Torreyes in camp.
There are ten other minor leaguers whom I know have been extended camp invites but will wait till either the Phillies or another outlet discloses their names. Iâm chomping at the bit to tell ya all but will wait đĽ´.
