3/1/2021 : Phillies Grapefruit Game Two

To be honest I was very apprehensive about coming to the games but after walking in, getting to our seats, watching BP, hearing the sound of the ball off the bat, the smell of the grass ... I got so emotional I could almost freaking cry ... I love this game and I love being here 🤓.

Now here’s what we saw :

Game Summary : Phillies 4 Orioles 4 - Seven Innings

DJ Stewart hit a two run home run against Aaron Nola in first inning.

Andrew Knapp delivered a two run double in the bottom of the first inning to score Andrew McCutchen ( singled ) and Jean Segura ( doubled ).

Matt Joyce hit a two run home run completely out of the yard over the right field wall in the bottom of the third inning.

Baltimore scored two unearned runs in the fifth inning aided by a fielding error by shortstop Nick Maton.

On The Hill :

Aaron Nola went two innings, top velocity today : 92 mph FB. Good first outing, settled in after the Stewart home run.

Brandon Kintzler threw a scoreless third inning - one hit allowed - top velocity today - 89 mph sinker.

Michael Ynoa - scoreless 4th inning - top velocity today - 93 mph FB. Ball had good movement.

Ramon Rosso - one IP - top velocity today - 93 mph FB

Jakob Hernandez - one scoreless IP - top velocity today - 92 mph FB ... showed big breaking slider. - scoreless inning - 1 K, 1 BB - inning ended on 4-6-3 DP

David Paulino - top velocity today - 93 mph ... also big break hook - mid 70’s - looked sharp - threw a perfect inning ending on a swinging K.

At The Plate :

On Base Twice : Andrew McCutchen & Roman Quinn - single & a walk. Rodolfo Duran - single & double. Jean Segura - double & fielders choice. Matt Joyce - walk and HR.

Doubles : Jean Segura, Andrew Knapp and Rodolfo Duran ( 2nd inning off CF wall ).

Home Run : Matt Joyce

Web Gems :

Matt Joyce made a great diving catch in right field on a sinking liner in the third inning 👏. He doubled up the base- runner at first base who had made his way to third base anticipating a base hit. In the same inning third baseman Ronald Torreyes made a sliding catch of a high pop up just a few feet down the third base line.

Shortstop Nick Maton made a leaping catch on a hard hit liner up the middle to end the fifth inning.

Phil-Ins :

Note that gates don’t open this year till 11:35 ... that’s a change from prior years 10:35 openings.

Seats that are used for distancing are zip tied shut so no one sits in them. Also you get to your seats on the closest end so you don’t cross over anyone ... no middle of the aisle seats are open for use.

Didn’t get the memo : it seemed as if the majority of the fans, once seated, discarded their masks. Especially true in our section. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️. This despite multiple requests made by public address announcer Chris Wheeler.
