3/19/21 : Grapefruit League Game Eighteen

Game Summary : Phillies 4 Yankees 1

The Phillies loaded the bases with one out on walks in the first inning but did not score.

New York scored a run in the fourth inning on a bases loaded sac fly by Luke Voit.

The Phillies were no hit thru seven innings. Ronald Torreyes singled to center field for the team’s first base hit of the game.

Matt Vierling, Edgar Cabral and Luke Williams drew walks to load the bases in the top of the ninth inning. A wild pitch by the Yankees Kyle Barraclough then allowed Vierling to score. Former Phillie Reggie McClain replaced Barraclough and hit Mickey Moniak with a pitch to re-load the bases.

McClain dropped a throwback from the catcher on one of his pitches and didn’t realize it, the ball rolled away ... pinch runner Johan Rojas took off and scored on the error from third base 👀.

Darick Hall then belted a double to left field that scored two more runs.

On The Hill :

Ivan Nova ( FB 90-93 ) started and was good thru the first three innings as he held New York hitless. He ran into trouble in the fourth though as he walked two and was tagged for a double by Aaron Judge. Nova left the game at that point with the bases full and no outs. His final line ... 3 + innings, 1 R, 1 H, 3 BB, 1 K

Enyel De Los Santos ( FB 92-93 ) came into a no-out bases loaded jam in the fourth inning and got the first out on a sac fly to left field. He then walked Gleyber Torres to re-load the bases but got Gio Urshela to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning 👍. Good job by Enyel - 1 IP, 1 BB.

Tony Watson ( FB 90-92 ) tossed a scoreless fifth inning striking out two batters ( Aaron Judge & DJ LeMahieu ) and walking one. Good bounce back outing.

Brandon Kintzler ( FB 90-92 ) struck out the side in a one hit ( check swing double that squibbed down right field line ) scoreless sixth inning, he too bounced back very strong after a rough prior outing.

Jo Jo Romero ( FB 92-94 ) allowed only a walk in a scoreless seventh inning.

Sam Coonrad ( FB 96-99 ) pitched well also, a batter reached on a fielding error by Bryson Stott but Coonrad pitched around it retiring the other three batters he faced with one strikeout.

Hector Rondon ( FB 92-93 ) finished it off with a perfect ninth inning striking out one batter.

At The Plate : two hits

Ronald Torreyes singled in the eighth inning, he hit a long fly to the track in right field in his first AB of the game that Aaron Judge made a nice running catch on.

Darick Hall doubled on a sharp line drive to left field to clear score two runs in the ninth inning.

The Phillies walked nine times in the game.

Defensive Gems :

Center Fielder Odubel Herrera got a great jump and read on a hard hit liner off the bat of Gary Sanchez in the fifth inning and made the running catch look easy ...

Phil-Ins :

Mini Camp players on the roster today included pitchers Enyel De Los Santos, Jonathan Hennigan, David Parkinson, JD Hammer and Zach Warren, Catchers Edgar Cabral and Logan O’Hoppe, Infielders Luis Garcia, Darick Hall, Luke Williams and Bryson Stott and Outfielders Odubel Herrera, Matt Vierling and Johan Rojas.

Grapefruit League record is now 9-8-1

Thanks to Sports Illustrated’s Max Goodman for providing some of the game details, he was in the ballpark.
