3/2/24 : Today in Spring Training

Minor League Camp :

I ventured to the complex this morning after parking at the stadium - was fun to say hello to many players who have returned for this year’s camp.  Today was an abbreviated schedule as some of the just concluded mini camp players were given the day off, tomorrow will be a full roster camp day.  After watching some live BP sessions I made the trek back to the stadium to watch the Grapefruit League game.

Bullpens :

Jordi Martinez, Estibenzon Jimenez, Mitch Neunborn, Matt Osterberg, Enrique Segura, Sam Aldegheri, Konnor Ash and Malik Binns each threw.

Live BP :

Mavis Graves, Alex Rao, Luke Russo, Andrew Baker, Cam Brown, Tommy McCollum and Robinson Pina each threw.

Brandon Marsh made five plate appearances on Roberts field, he had three hits and two walks. RHP Luke Russo showed a nice breaking ball in his session.  I continue to be very impressed with Cam Brown - the right hander has big velocity and a quick late breaking slider that gets in on hitters.  The 22 year old 2023 10th round draft selection from TCU had a strong high performance camp in January and hasn’t missed a beat since.  One to watch - just sayin.

Grapefruit League Game Nine :

Phillies 3 Twins 2

Clearwater, Florida

Minnesota scored a run in the top of the second inning - Nick Castellanos tied it with a lead off home run in the bottom of the second.  Ryan Jeffers homered for Minnesota in the third inning.

In the bottom of the seventh inning William Simoneit and Trevor Schwecke singled, they scored on a two out double down the left field line by Felix Reyes (he’s always been one of my favorite minor leaguers - Felix hit a long fly foul two pitches before his double).

At the Plate : 3 R, 6 H, 0 BB, 13 K’s

Nick Castellanos homered.  Erick Brito and Felix Reyes each doubled in their only AB’s - Reyes posted two RBIs.
