The Phillies have acquired INF Esteban Quiroz from the Chicago Cubs for cash considerations. He will be assigned to minor league camp. Quiroz is 31 years old and has 40 major league AB’s - all during last season with the Chicago Cubs in 14 games. He has played primarily second base during his career which includes extensive time in the Mexican League but has also seen action at shortstop, third base and the outfield.
With infielder Will Toffey suffering a separated shoulder injury and others having potential opt out clauses in their contracts the acquisition of Quiroz provides infield depth and roster coverage at triple A level Lehigh Valley. He’s a left handed hitter who’s been in the Red Sox, Padres, Rays and Cubs systems.
