Major League Camp :
Catchers Vito Friscia and Cody Roberts, infielder Vimael Machín and right-handed pitcher Jake Jewell were all reassigned to minor league camp.
Grapefruit League Action :
Phillies 4 (14-12-1) Tigers 1 (12-16) @ Clearwater
Summary :
Kyle Schwarber doubled in the first inning and scored on a single by Rhys Hoskins.
Trea Turner hit a two run home run in the fifth inning scoring Brandon Marsh (walked) in front of him.
The Tigers scored a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Javier Baez.
Weston Wilson doubled to score John Hicks (walked) in the seventh inning.
LH Bailey Falter was excellent going five shutout innings - he’s easy to root for, great personality and really cares about his work. RH Connor Brogdon retired all four batters he faced as the skipper stretched him out over two innings, change up was sinking like crazy today.
RHP Trey Cobb is a name to keep in mind. The sidewinder struck out both batters he faced to close out the game, has a really good change up that is deceptive in both movement and spin (it knuckles). His sinker is made even more effective by the pitch. I’ve watched Trey’s bullpens this spring from behind the plate, the action on his pitches is just different and intriguing, I really believe at some point this summer he can help the big club out of the pen.
Injury concern :
Rhys Hoskins was carted off the field in the second inning with an apparent left knee injury.
MEDICAL UPDATE ON RHYS HOSKINS
Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins underwent an MRI today that revealed a left knee anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear that will require surgery. The recommended surgery is an ACL reconstruction.
Additional details regarding the surgery, including the date and surgeon, are to be determined.
