3/23/21 : Mickey Moniak

Mickey was optioned to mini camp before tonight’s game versus the Blue Jays however not before he made a great camp impression.

He hit .273/.385/.727 with an OPS of 1.112 in 18 games ( 22 AB’s ) with two doubles, a triple, two home runs and two walks.

It’s my view that the thought process all along was for Mickey to go to Allentown, play everyday and put himself in a position to earn a full time job in the show for 2022. He’s on his way towards that path.

After the game with the Blue Jays Joe Girardi was asked how he projects Mickey and he said he sees him as an everyday big league outfielder, that he told him to go to Lehigh Valley and play every outfield position and to try to stay as strong physically as he came into spring camp. Joe said they want the next time that Mickey is called to the majors for it to be for the long term and that he definitely sees him as an everyday contributor in the show.

We agree with the skipper and have been touting that assessment for the 22 year old since we first saw him debut as a teenager. The young man has always had the talent to be a Brett Gardner like player in our opinion. It’s just a matter of having some sustained success and earning the final promotion.

Great camp for Mickey, very happy for him and his family ... they’ve never wavered in their belief that he could excel. I’m pretty sure he’s gonna prove em right. Stay tuned ... and for you folks in Allentown it’s gonna be fun to watch him this summer.

Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
