The Phillies have acquired LHP Nick Allgeyer from the Toronto Blue Jays as well as RHP TJ Zeuch from the Colorado Rockies - both in exchange for cash considerations.
Allgeyer was the 2022 opening day starter for the AAA level Buffalo Bisons and was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 12th round of the 2018 draft from the University of Iowa. He’s now 27 years old and has posted a cumulative record of 21-19 in 95 minor league games (335 IP). He’s made 60 starts and likely will slot into AAA Lehigh Valley’s rotation at the beginning of the season. He features a mid-90’s fastball and a changeup that keeps hitters off-balance, also has a slider in his arsenal and has good control of his pitches.
Zeuch was the 1st round draft selection of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2016 from the University of Pittsburgh. He was traded to St Louis in 2021, claimed by the Reds on waivers in 2022 and signed as a minor league free agent by the Rockies this off season. He’s appeared in 16 major league games (10 starts) but has primarily pitched in the minor leagues (100 games - 92 starts) and has a career 3.99 ERA in 484 2/3 minor league innings pitched. He’s a big fella at 6’7” who is a sinker ball pitcher with the two seamer generally sitting in the 90-92 mph range, he also features a change up, slider and curve ball.
From a fan’s view welcome to the Phillies!
