The big league squad traveled to Tampa today to play the Yankees, we spent our day at the Complex watching our minor leaguers practice and play a couple games against the Blue Jays.

The 20 year old from Curacao threw a live BP this morning on Carlton Field. The slender hurler has a natural cut on his fastball that carries thru from midpoint to across the plate on his delivery. It’s movement that is natural and bodes well in his progression if he can harness command. Really like his set up and delivery and the way the ball moves. One to watch for sure.

Minor league roster moves :
OF Jorge Bonifacio has re-signed with the organization and was on the field today, in fact he played in the AAA designated game on Ashburn Field. Last season he provided great veteran leadership and presence to both Reading and Lehigh Valley plus he was a middle of the order presence. The 28 year old returns as a minor league free agent signing.
Yesterday six players were released and announced on the MILB transactions log - infielders Guarner Dipre, Edgar Made and Joey Genord along with pitchers Tyler Adams, Dylan Castaneda and Jose Ulloa. Best wishes to each young man in their future endeavors.
Highlights from today’s Minor League Games :
In the AA designated game on Roberts Field Logan O’Hoppe had two knocks that I saw, a double to right center field and an infield single. Logan was the starting catcher in the contest. OF Hunter Markwardt went yard over the right field fence.
Adam Leverett started on the hill and threw three scoreless frames, relievers Andrew Schultz, Billy Sullivan, Erubiel Armenta and Jason Ruffcorn each tossed scoreless innings. Armenta had a dominant frame striking out the side, threw a slider/curve today that had big bite and break, first time I’ve seen him with that as a secondary, at least in person anyways.
On Ashburn Field James McArthur, Scott Moss, Kyle Dohy and Jake Newberry had good outings. Recently anointed reliever Francisco Morales would have sealed a 5-4 win with his ninth inning effort but a booted grounder kept the frame alive and a runner scored on a sac fly afterwards. Francisco has transferred to the bullpen as a back end presence, will begin at Lehigh Valley - allows him to focus on both of his power pitches ( mid to upper nineties FB and hard slider ) and sets up a potential quick ascension to the show. We like the young man and his arsenal a lot and feel this is a very positive move for both him and the organization.
Wendell Rijo and Drew Maggi both homered in the contest. Jhailyn Ortiz hit a moon shot in BP that landed up on the concourse of the stadium. I was told he launched one off the stadium wall beyond left field in yesterday’s contest. 💪
Tomorrow will be the last games of camp as the four groups will square off against the Yankees - AA/AAA at Tampa and the A groups at Clearwater.

Today’s Grapefruit League Game :
Yankees 14 Phillies 2 - Tampa
The Yankees put up an eight spot in the 8th inning to run away with the game. Matt Vierling doubled in the contest and Aaron Nola pitched four innings as the starter. Minor league addition McCarthy Tatum got a hit in his only AB, I believe that’s his first Grapefruit League knock.
Best wishes to Adam Haseley who was traded today to the White Sox. We got to know him a little bit and hope he has success with the Sox.
The Tigers comes to Clearwater to face the Phillies in tomorrow afternoons Grapefruit League game.
Happy Day, Happy Baseball ⚾️
